Cannot believe that Brodin didnt get nominated....hell he should likely win the thing with what he contributed as a raw kid who was unfamiliar with the NA game and only 19 YO.

You just know that Yakupov is thinking that the only reason he got 'snubbed' is because he is Russian.
As for the guys nominated, I think they got it right. Hard to say who wins it but I'll go with Huberdeau

Oh yeah, forgot about Brodin. He deserved a nomination as well. Always tough for defensemen with the Calder.

I think this is a pretty terrible list. Pretty much shows eastern bias.
As much as I hate Yakupov, he deserved to be one of the nominees over Huberdeau and Saad.
Huberdeau had to have led the league in turnovers. Saad plays with Jonathan Toews.
Should have been Brodin, Yakupov, Gallagher, with Brodin winning it.

Brodin is so legit. Don't remember who nominates and votes for the Calder, but most of the awards are just ridiculous, specifically the media-voted ones.

The Shultz and Yakapov hype machine not nominated that sounds about right. 
Huberdeau
Saad
Gallagher
I would think Saad has the best chance to win the majority of voters are on the East coast so Chicago games are able to be watched early out there and all the Western based voters are familiar with Saad.
Played his way up the depth chart on a rock solid team roster that goes on to win the Presidents trophy that is what is truly impressive about Saad as a rookie.
I would take any of these 3 on the Flames in a second no questions.

Saad is a machine. A step above Yakupov and a real impact player. You don't get to play in Chicago's top 6 unless you are good. This isn't the Oilers where every kid gets a chance.

This, most of the voters had probably already submitted their votes and went away for the weekend.
Yakupov had decent rookie year and Edmonton fans should take some heart in that. But he was way too inconsistent and prone to vanishing throughout the season to be considered.

Yep Saad is a machine and everything you want in a power forward.
I still believe in my heart, that Feaster was talking about Saad when he mentioned that a player they wanted, kept dropping in the 2nd round, and the flames missed out on the player by a couple of spots.

too bad Conacher went cold after that terrific start. Probably would have deserved it if he could have somehow kept up his pace of the first 15-20 games.

Which really sucks, if true, because he was drafted with the Flames' pick that was traded away for a couple of players who never played a single game for the Flames, only 2 spots ahead of the pick the Flames used to get Markus Granlund.

My vote is for Gallagher. Contributed in many ways (not just points) as word has it Gallagher's attitude and enthusiasm seemed to re-energize the whole locker room.
Not to mention these other factors:
- Pressure of a Canadian market (and the Canadien market)
- Not playing with superstars
- Overcome size and strength issues to finish T2 on team in goals

Based on what - these stats?
Yakupov was a non-factor throughout the year. His point surge late in the season, when the Oilers played for nothing but personal stats, were absolutely irrelevant.
