Maybe I dont know enough about the structural strength of ships but seems to me that grabbing a boat like a bat and swinging it around would just have the boat snap in half very easily. I dont imagine ships are made to handle that particular sort of stress.
/i'm also kind of basing this on Titanic where once 1/2 the ship was sunk the top half snapped under its own weight.

No you are most likely correct, movies aren't known for their accurate portrayal of things like this, but on the scale of 1 to giant robots fighting aliens from the ocean depths, boat-clubs is probably somewhere in the middle.
Mass increases with size by a factor of 8, so your intuition applies to the robots and aliens themselves too.
