Lol, to paraphrase blaster86, giant robot hit an alien with a boat, your argument is invalid.

Still not a fan of how they pilot the robots but it should be a fun movie.

Melding the minds of two bipeds so they can both do the exact same thing to control a biped robot seems....unnecessary.

So I'm the only one then who thinks Pacific Rim looks like absolute 100% grade A garbage?

Holy god does it look bad.

Agreed. Looks like a cartoon for 10 year old boys.
Reminds me of when the Power Rangers combined their robots...

While I appreciate the advances in special effects, I miss the charm of two guys in rubber monster suits beating each other up.

Maybe I dont know enough about the structural strength of ships but seems to me that grabbing a boat like a bat and swinging it around would just have the boat snap in half very easily. I dont imagine ships are made to handle that particular sort of stress.

/i'm also kind of basing this on Titanic where once 1/2 the ship was sunk the top half snapped under its own weight.

could they not have made a giant sword for the giant power ranger robot?

No you are most likely correct, movies aren't known for their accurate portrayal of things like this, but on the scale of 1 to giant robots fighting aliens from the ocean depths, boat-clubs is probably somewhere in the middle.

Mass increases with size by a factor of 8, so your intuition applies to the robots and aliens themselves too.

I for one am going to wait for a realistic movie about humans creating giant robots to fight aliens.

Reminds me enough of the classic anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion that I doubt it's a coincidence.

Which is not a bad thing, I'm all for stealing fun ideas.
