The Canucks are in year 2. I don't know if Gillis recognizes that the Canucks are heading down the same path or, if he does, that he's brave enough to break things up.

Slight hyperbole, but not that far off. We spent so many years "tinkering" with the line-up to try and put us into Stanley Cup contention after '04, by trading draft picks and younger players. Then when the stanley cup contender ship sailed, instead of starting over or thinking about getting younger, we continued "tinkering" with the line-up, instead now we were looking to add those final pieces to squeek into the playoffs year after year.
So yeah, decade long debacle would be a hyperbole, I guess, as those teams from '05-'08ish were certainly worth adding pieces to, to try and "win now", but there was a point when we needed to realize the ship had sailed and go a different direction, and that point wasn't the 2013 trade deadline.

Seriously? If you can't do the math, I'm not sure I can explain it clearly enough for you.
Are you then of the opinion that the Flames would be no further along had they treated the 2011 trade deadline as they did the 2013 deadline????

What fun would that be for you guys? Isn't the reason you listen to the show is to hear all of us cry on air?

They won the division this year. They aren't sneaking in to the playoffs. Should you sell all your assets every year you don't blow the socks off the league?
I just think that they still have time in their window (however without class or heart they'll never won anything). You don't sell many tickets if you dismantle the team that is still very competitive imo

Long game.
Canucks fans not being able to phone in to the Canucks post game show after a loss because its inundated with Flames fans? Its like dividing by zero, they'd lose it.

I think you are actually proving my point while disagreeing with me. You say 08, I would argue 09 was the last time this roster was worth tinkering with as you put it. Not pretending that we delivered any playoff success, but to suggest the Flames should have been taring it down post cup run, which is what the sentiment of "taking a decade" implies is ridiculous.
The Flames management has been miss reading what direction to take this team team since 2010, not 2004. It's 2013, not 2020, so suggesting a decade is massive hyperbole.

I suggested they'd cheat the curve of their impending decline, to which you disagreed. I have no expectation of them tearing it down, as I've never seen any other team in their position do so...though I'd like to see it happen once... I think Detriot is in a great spot to do it right now if they lose to Anaheim.

The only downside to this series is that CBC isn't doing it. I'd love to hear the Hughson tears flow.

Sorry, I thought you meant blow it up style rebuild. The year Detroit looks like they're missing the playoffs is the year they do it imo.
As an aside, does it hurt fan passion to be too successful for too long? I know there are other factors, but could that be part of the decline in attendance in Vancouver, Detroit, etc? Is it not a good way to build loyalty to have a good/bad cycle

God I hope that Van management sees it that way, but when you actually look under the hood you will see that they had the same number of wins as the Wild and also had the benefit of having 3 of the crappiest teams in the division. When compared to the true big dogs in the west they ended miles behind Anaheim and Chicago, lower than St. Louis, and shoulder to shoulder with LA and SJ and got owned in first two games.
But yeah, i hope they think "We won the division so we're fine"

They just showed a clip of Vigneault from yesterday. Was he crying? Yikes.
I think he may see his job hanging by a thread.

Not really his fault either.
Sedin twins are simply not showing up. Haven't in the playoffs for a very long time.

Putting the Sedins out there with Bieksa and Edler to protect a lead for the last minute while keeping guys like Kesler, Hamhuis, and Garrison on the bench was so asininely stupid he deserves a big share of the blame for the loss. Not to mention feeding Bieksa and Edler heavy ES minutes in favor of Hamhuis/Garrison even though the latter pair dominated 5-on-5 all season.
Vigneault is a fantastic coach but he makes some absolutely baffling decisions sometimes.

Who gets the start in net tonight? Luongo had two very good games in a losing performance. I'm stunned Vancouver has crapped the bed these first two games.
