Default Bouma sits dows with King?

http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...298/story.html

Found this interesting, in light of the management discussion thread:

Even as a pending restricted free agent, Bouma plans next winter to be in Calgary, especially after productive sit-downs with president Ken King, general manager Jay Feaster, and assistant general manager John Weisbrod.

WTF, so does King sit down with every roster player before leaving for the summer?

Almost sounds as if this is a private meeting.,."sitdowns" not a sitdown. Though even a sitdown with all 3 is almost as bad if its a "group think" with Feaster and Wisebrod in the room.

Question is, why is he doing this...to what end as President can justify that? Ridiculous.

It's a clear indictiation that King has his hands in pies that are outside of a role that a President, IMO, should have in regards to hockey operations.

Given the past comments from outside sources like Keenan and others about the structure in the upper offices, having things like one on one chats with all players upon leaving for the offseason, is lending further credence to that...and that sort of "participation" from someone who probably shouldn't be there can't be looked upon favourable by UFA's and other players around the league about what you're about to get into when coming to Calgary.

Shrug, it's an end-of-season interview - I think you're making too much of this.

I dont really see this as a bad thing as long as he lets Wiesbrod and Feaster make the decisions. He can be involved however should not over step his boundaries which in this case I dont think he did.

Clear indication? LOL

What if Feaster wanted him to sit down with the kids to help him get a sense of things? Is that Kings fault?

Considering there is 0 said about what his role was and it could have just been to thank the kid for his hard work, tell him to keep his chin up after a tough injury or to see how he was, it seems a little presumptious to jump up and down about King being there.

Why would the president sit down with a hockey player? Makes no sense.

King is meddling, if you can't see that then you must have the blinders on.

Can't Feaster tell Bouma that? Why should Feaster need someone else to tell a player that sort of thing?

Meddling with the roster personal...and you have told STH far too many times Kenny that you are not involved with that process.
Ken King should finally be held accountable and fired for numerous and mounting non playoff seasons but he won't. Edwards likes how King runs his team from a $ perspective. The product on the ice is secondary.
Fyi the Flames raised the ST prices for 2013-14...again.

Did you honestly just ask why the president of a hockey team would meet with a hockey player?

Well at least this thread isn't completely ripe with over-the-top speculation.

Feaster could but don't see the problem with both guys talking to him. I have had plenty of upper bosses come in to talk to me when my direct supervisor could have. I think sometimes having the big cheese come in makes it seem a little more and perhaps in their view shows the organization is interested in the person.

Unless Feaster didn't want him there and King came in anyways I really don't see the issue when it is what seems like an exit interview.

Um, why shouldn't the president sit down with the hockey player? It's his job since he's at the top of hierarchy of hockey operations. He'll want to get the player thoughts on the past season.

KK is doing his job. I have issues with him since I don't believe he should be in that position, but I'm not going to hate on him for doing what every other president in the league probably do (or consider doing).

Yes, I did.

Why would Ken King need to be in that room? He's not involved in the roster side of things and I pray to god that his insight isn't being shared or taken seriously.

So we have a lawyer, a newspaper guy, and an NBA guy in the room making our hockey decisions. Great.

NBA guy?
NBA guy!?

Weisbrod is NOT an NBA guy FFS.

Plus the "lawyer" has been in upper management of professional hockey for close to 20 godamn years now.

Jesus why does this place have to be so intolerable at times?

My thoughts as well.

The president of hockey operations should be involved with hockey decisions.

I don't think King should be the president of hockey ops though, as he's not a hockey guy and has never been part of an organization that has had any sort of success on the ice, and seems incapable of helping this team do just that.

If he's focused on things like getting a new arena, fine - that's cool. But that's one of the reasons why we should have gone after John Davidson and detached King from the hockey operations aspect of the organization.

Before people jump to conclusions, what makes you think the president NOT sitting in on these interviews is the norm for the NHL?

"So, Bouma, how are things, things treating you well? How's things between you and Feaster. Going well? How about you and Weisbrod. Good? Feel mistreated? Feel like the management team is honest and forthright with you? Hmm? Alright, thanks for talking with me, and have a good summer."

That couldn't be the content of the discussion, could it? It HAS to be meddling. It couldn't be a part of his evaluation of his management staff, no no. King is the Problem! This tin foil hat allows me to see clearly!

Some of you must have seriously never had a job before.

Upper Management meet with employees and call shots all the time. That's kind of a part of their job.
