that is why i threw him there. He could go anywhere from 17th-35 really all depends on the GM and how they either like his offensive prowness or shy away down to his size.

I can only think of Briere, and his skill is exceptional. He also had 2.43 point/game in the Q during his draft year.

i wouldn't take him i'm just saying Feaster seems to have a liking to small players. Not always but more than most GM's. Look at the team and some of our draft picks.

I think if the Flames have the opportunity to take a guy like Eric Comrie with their third 1st round pick, they would be silly not to. IMO he is as attractive as Carey Price was when Carey played with Tri City. Eric would go much higher if he didn't have surgery this year.

I can't imagine Derek Roy is any bigger than 5'9.

Mantha, Erne, Hagg, Morin. If we could get two of those pieces to compliment Lindholm/Monahan, i would be excited.

Mantha had the most goals in the Q this year, and is a monster. And decent speed to compliment that size. Good sized power forward on the wing.

Erne is a workhorse, nasty tempered, big hitting winger who put up72 in 68. Good size and speed with a great shot.

Hagg is calm big, and fast. He actually uses his body to defend, not just an active stick. Has offense and defence. Maybe Karlsson light, and that's just fine.

Morin is a big, mean, shutdown D. Size. Hitting. Solid play in the defensive end. Sold.

Oh man so many good players for the first round. I can't see many of these players being available in the 22-29 range because in a normal year they'd be so much higher, but with such a deep draft who knows.

If Wennberg makes it our of the top ten I will be surprised. If he makes it to fifteen, I really really hope we trade up to grab him. Major fan of his speed and skating style.

If someone in our top 8-10 falls to the teens then we have to look at potentially dealing up. Could be similar to the Ducks trading the 32 and 36th picks for the 25th overall pick to draft Perry. It is very likely there will be possibilities like this available.

If we don't deal up then here's what I'd like to see:

Get a #1 centre. MacKinnon, Barkov, Lindholm or Monahan.

Get a big defenceman. Nurse, Zadorov, Ristolainen, or Morin. Really hoping one of these guys drops to our STL pick or perhaps we deal up to get one of them as per above.

Grab another solid prospect. Erne, Lazar, Morrissey, Horvat, Wennberg, Domi, Shinkaruk, Mantha, Hartman, De La Rose (big centre), Gauthier (big centre), Zykov, Bailey (big centre), Compher, Bowey, Heatherington, McCoshen all appeal. Those who want us to grab three big centres should keep their eyes on De La Rose and Bailey as I think those are a couple guys with some upside who could end up as big top two line centres.

Such a deep first round. Can't wait.

Couldn't agree more about the apparent depth in the first round. I think Feaster and his team deserve a bit more recognition than they seem to get for actually landing those two first round picks with the two deals. It's also becoming more clear to me why Feaster was the only GM to acquire any additional first round picks leading up to the deadline. Too many players with too much upside to risk trading one of those picks away.

And Feaster got two.

Every team's scouting staff has known about this depth a lot longer than we have, and I'm sure Pittsburgh and St. Louis knew full well what they were potentially passing up on when they included first rounders in each of those deals. In hindsight, it seems as though they both payed a heavy ransom, and likely knew full well how steep that price was at the time they payed it.

I recall a lot of dismay among much of the fan base at the time of the trades surrounding the lateness of the firsts and at the fact that the prospects were unheralded. Now I think we have cause for more optimism. While perhaps not top flight talent, the prospects seem like they could fill important roles on the team moving forward, and with the depth of the first round, even these late picks could return some very good players with long NHL careers.

I'm squarely in the "keep all three picks" camp. It sounds like there are home runs to score towards the end of the first round.

Finally a set of circumstances that seem to be working to the teams's advantage. Hopefully they make the most of it with three great selections.

It isn't fair to compare him to Sven, Sven was playing on the 2nd line and was very raw when we drafted him. He also just came in from Switzerland in his draft year. Petan has already played 2 seasons.

I don't know if that's completely true. Certainly he was trying to up the skill level on the team, which he did, but big skilled players are hard to get. So does he like small players or does he like skilled players and is willing to overlook size? Hopefully these picks afford him the luxury of picking both skill and size

I couldn't be more excited to get 3 first rounders than in this draft. Lots of pressure on the Flames management team to make the right decisions in a year like this.
