Do you take the time to prep one before work (I've tried numerous times but always fail miserably) or do you usually just go grab fast food or what not? I've been attempting to eat healthy but how many times can you really visit subway/extreme pita without it getting old. Salads... yeah I'm not a rabbit so don't even go there. What's on the menu for today CP?!
I worked at Nexen for 5 years. Off the top of my head:

Kangnam Station on 7th Ave - Spicy stone pot Pork on rice
Sushi & Co 10th st between 7th and 6th ave - my favorite takeout place
Tamarind - vietnamese place beside sushi & co - very friendly
Pho Viet - 5th ave & 8th st
Sushi Hiro - A little more expensive but always has unique fish and is happy to feed it to you if you sit at the sushi bar
Holy Grill - 10th ave & 8th st - good paninis, my favorite is the Mr chicken with banana peppers instead of tomatoes
Cafe Mauro - awesome italian sandwiches, mentioned above, prosciutto & bocconcini is good, chicken parm is my favourite.
Bumpy's Cafe - has pretty good mac & cheese and other lunch stuff
Olive Chicken - a little further down 10th ave in the korean shopping centre. korean style fried chicken
Korean Village - beside olive chicken.
Uptown sushi - across from co-op on 11th ave, pretty decent.
co-op on 11th ave - great co-op has a ton of lunch options
Mirchi on 12th - 12th Ave & 8th st - great indian food, can do take-out or sit-down
Vietnamese Village - gotta go up some shady stairs on the north side of the c-train tracks between 8th & 9th st.
Thi Thi - Vietnamese subs on 8th ave
Chickpea - donairs/falafels on 8th ave
Mirchi on 2nd ave - Indian buffet
Don Day - korean place beside crack macs - better than it looks, not sure if open for lunch
Dakota Deli on 9th st
Atlas mediterranean food
Flavour me Pizza - pretty solid pizza there
Bagelino's - i like the lox bagel with salmon cream cheese capers and red onion
Husky 3rd floor cafeteria - different lunch special every day and a full salad bar - you can get the menu at the start of the week and plan your week. They also do omelettes in the morning.

You can also hop on the #2 in front of McDonald's on 8th st and go to Tubby Dog, The Coup, Caffe Beano, Cibo, Quizno's, Thanh Long Vietnamese, or Green Chili Indian Buffet on 17th ave, then take the #2 back to work!

Charcut has a good lunch for $15 at 9th ave and centre st.

Soup, Sandwich, Cookies, in and out in 45 minutes, $15.

When I want a longer lunch I even head to chinatown on the c-train. Pho Hoai in the shopping centre on 2nd ave has good pho. Dim sum @ Silver dragon if you've got a few people.

Flatlands cafe on 11th ave is good. They have a different lunch special everyday. Bit of a mom and pop lunch place. It's a bit on the healthier side.

Easily my choice for best breath candidate of the year, guessing you wash it all down with some Dr. Pepper?

I would say you people who spend extra time preparing lunch are nuts. It's not like bringing a lunch into work is free; I would say it costs me anywhere from $3-5 for a basic lunch. For that extra $80 per month I get:

- a chance to go outside for a break from my office, and a bit of a walk.
- social interaction with others
- more time spent with my family; as it does take some time to prepare, pack, and shop for the extra groceries.
- a choice every day to decide what I feel like having. Sometimes what I felt like the night before isn't what I feel like 18 hours later.

I think you're grasping at straws there Ken. Doesn't take much effort or time to buy groceries for lunches or make lunches, and if you bring you're lunch to work , you're still allowed to go outside if you want.

I will say that I am in a little bit different of a situation than most of the rest of you. If I do not bring my lunch to work, I starve. There are no restaurants around where I work, so I guess I am biased and in the habit of making my lunch. I feel this is a healthier alternative as well.

What I'm saying is that 5-10 minutes per day of my family time in the evening is worth more to me than spending 15 minutes going to get lunch during my "break from work" time. And yes you could go outside even if you bring your lunch; but I often find I don't if I don't have a specific reason.

I get that you have to bring your lunch due to your work location; and there is no doubt that it's almost always healthier. My objection was to when people use words like "you guys are nuts" because we have different meal planning that you.

Pretty good but sooooooooooooooooooooo overpriced. Almost borderline rediculous for what you get.

I have left overs 3 days a week, tuna sandwich 1 day a week, and buy on Fridays. Pretty routine.

Use the above app for a week or more and you won't want to eat out very much. Not just the grams of fat either.......the sodium. Nothing wrong with eating out a couple times per week but if it is daily it eventually catches up in weight gain/hypertension/high cholesterol/high blood pressure etc. Even Jareds diet was not all that great for you in many ways. Put good gas in your tank

I agree with fotze in that alien fridges can be gross, especially ones with sloppy colleagues. I work in a very multi cultural building and our work fridge reminds me of the dump.

I take a small personal cooler to work with my lunch in it, you can buy reusable ice packs at Wal Mart for 89 cents that will last you a year.

It is true that preparing your meals and packing your lunch up does take time. But I don't do it because I like wasting time, I do it because I like to eat healthy and the other options for eating healthy are never as good as a home made chicken breast and brown rice. Every second Friday I will usually meet a friend for lunch, and that is about the perfect amount of eating out for me.

I choose between microwaveable soup, lean cuisine, weight watchers or healthy choice steamer meals. There are lots of different flavours and try them until you find a few of each type. These are between $3-$5 (and one of them is often on sale). I also have a yogurt cup and a couple pieces of fruit.

On my way out the door I can grab everything in a minute so prep-time is pretty much nil. I can decide which I want on the way out, so there isn't much "What will I want to eat tomorrow" factor. In the freezer it will last indefinitely so if I do end up wanting to go out for lunch it will still be there tomorrow.

The only trick to it is finding ones that you enjoy. As long as it tastes good then I don't feel deprived. And it is generally filling enough that I save the apple or orange to eat mid-afternoon.

Overpriced or small'ish portions? $8 for a homemade breakfast seems standard. A&W's breakfast is about $7 if i remember correctly.

You could go to McDonalds or Tim's and get a breakfast for $4 but not sure what's in it.

does anyone go fishing and catch thier thier own lunch? alternatively, you could also go hunting, but you are limited to small game (rabbits, squirrels etc), if you are working in the core - in the industrial parks you might be able to get a coyote or a possum.
