I'm not one to normally pick apart people's trade proposals, but that is insane.
The risk of damage to our depth chart is far greater than the chance that MacKinnon would single handedly lead us to glory.

Anyone who would not do this for Crosby is nuts.
For merely a superstar? Maybe. If you think pick six will be just good. At best 2 of the rest will be decent players.
Would you trade say... Vanek, gerbe and kaleta for Malkin?
Interesting question.

For Crosby or Malkin, sure. For McKinnon, no. That's effin crazy! This draft year is supposed to be deep. So, you can get a 3 centers in the 1st round and bolstr that with some D in second and later rounds.

You'd still have the Blues pick. The scenario was all the Flames' picks plus the Pens pick

Of course i would make that trade but there is no way Colorado is interested in that trash to downgrade 1st to 6th. Some of you are way overrating late draft picks. It is essentially the pits 1st to move up to 1st pick.

You know what, I will pull the trigger if Florida takes the package of the 6th pick and one of the other first round picks for 2nd overall. I don't want the Flames to draft another Kris Chucko with a late 1st round pick. I think MacKinnon more sure-fire than a Lindholm or Monahan.

In a weak draft year, I would be tempted. But given how many quality players should be available to the Flames for their first three picks this year, no chance.

This line of reasoning is really starting to bug me. The Flames need a first-line Centre because they don't have one now, not because they didn't have one 10 years ago.
How long the Flames have not had a first-line Centre for shouldn't have any bearing on what they would give up to get one.

All of our picks? That's ridiculous.
I would, however, trade the three firsts without blinking if the pick we landed was a lock to select MacKinnon.
He's a huge upgrade on Lindholm and Monahan and once we get past the 20 mark those other two firsts are a crapshoot to yield an impact player.
MacKinnon isn't going to be a Crosby but I peg him in and around the Tavaras level. Definitely a franchise player to build around.

I don't think there is anything fans overvalue more than draft picks.
Someone actually said they wouldn't trade that package for Gretzky. GRETZKY! Frikkin hell, take a look at his records. He has more assists than the next best player has points. He is better than anyone who ever played the game and ever will play the game.
4th to 7th round picks are worth almost nothing. If you could take the best player in any one draft in each round they still wouldn't be worth trading for Gretzky.

I'm of the same mind. Landing MacKinnon makes all the other picks irrelevant.

No way. But I would move Pittsburgh's and St. Louis' 1st rounder and all other picks (while keeping our 1st) for the #1 overall pick. Colorado won't do it though.

In this scenario the Flames would still have the St. Louis pick though so they'd still get a pretty good prospect to go along with a potential franchise player.
I can maybe buy not doing the trade for a player like MacKinnon, but anyone saying they wouldn't do that trade for a Crosby level prospect is completely and utterly insane.

Go back through some drafts from the last 15 years or so.
Look at all the players the Flames drafted in each year. Then look at the kid on the cover of the Hockey News draft preview. And ask yourself who you would rather have.
Patrik Kane, or Mikael Backlund, Kieth Aulie, John Negrin, Mickey Renaud, and CJ Severyn?
The vast majority of the time, NHL teams draft one quality NHLer, and a bunch of scrubs every year.
All your picks for 1st overall? Most of the time, that will end up being trading one quality NHLer and a bunch of scrubs for an All-Star.
I'd do it every year, rather than pretend that we're realistically going to draft multiple impact players that are so good they cant be had via UFA.
