Ryan Whitney, there's hope after Edmonton jerks you around...unlike other team's blacklisting you, getting on the Oilers blacklist is a positive to other teams around the league - See Souray, Sheldon.
As far as the Flames, said before, will say again, I think Tanguay's gone...trade, maybe, but don't see too many takers, so my money is still on a buyout so the Flames don't have his contract for 3 more years. Cammalleri probably traded at the draft; I'm sure he's not going to have much objection to that either.
|
Don't see him moved at the draft for the same reason he was not moved at the trade deadline. It will be hard to fit his $6M salary under the cap next for a lot of teams unless he wants to go to somewhere like Winnipeg.
I think he gets moved at the deadline next season.

I really hope he does. I met and spoke to Sven without his hockey gear after the game a month or so ago as part of the Flames "goalie judge experience" promo. He is still just a kid.

Cammy in his interview said that he doesn't have a NTC/NMC. Did it expire this year?

Also Gio should ask for a trade if he thinks we aren't rebuilding.

It could be that in Gio's mind, and other players mind, rebuild = lose, and they don't want to try to lose regardless of what management's plans for the team are.

I don't think Cammalleri ever had a NTC, or NMC in his contract that he signed when he left the Flames.

He had a limited no move clause where he gave a list of ten teams he would not want to be traded to IIRC.

Maybe players and management like to shy away from the word rebuild so we don't instantly think of the Oilers

He had a limited NTC. He might still have it. He said he does not have a NMC.

I think if you are going to burn bridges as an NHL player with your team, Edmonton is the right choice. It might even help your reputation with some people/organisations.

I bet Whitney will sign with Montreal, Minnesota, or Boston.

He did, Calgary was on his list so he never had to waive it originally. My guess it was absolved at the time of his trade.

It doesn't matter what Gio or any other player says about a rebuild or not. His job is to compete and lead on the ice, he's not in management. No one should be concerned about anything any player says in regards to rebuild. I like that Gio is thinking about being competitive next year, hopefully he's ready to actually show up and play well.

Hartley said he would like to see an upgrade to the size and speed in Calgary's lineup.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=421973
Raymond for speed; Jan Mursak could be one of those mid-20 year old projects that Feaster and co. have become fond of. Great wheels, just couldn't crack the Wings lineup when he was healthy
Clowe, Clarkson, Horton, or Steckel for size

Alex Tanguay gives himself a failing grade for focus during times of turbulence for the Calgary Flames:
Quote:
The veteran left winger candidly admits he struggled to stay on task with one of his best friends, captain Jarome Iginla, and defenceman Jay Bouwmeester on the verge of moving to playoff contenders at the NHL trade deadline.
“I was playing pretty good the first 20 to 25 games of the year, and then when the distraction came about, I think mentally I got a little bit affected by it,” Tanguay volunteered Sunday. “And that’s on me. You have to be a professional. You have to play your best every night.
“But I’ve got some good years of hockey ahead of me, and I’m hoping that I can be a key contributor in this organization.”

Baertschi talks about what it will take for him to become the next face of the franchise:
Quote:
"Some day, I really want to be there,” Baertschi said Sunday without a hit of bravado. “I want to be that guy who is the face of the franchise. I want to be that guy.”
“I understand now that it takes a lot,” Baertschi said. “And talking to a guy like Jarome, sitting beside him in the locker-room, I have a lot of respect for that guy.
“If you watch him doing certain things, he’s the best pro on this team.”
|
Quote:
“The way he handles things, after losses, it’s mostly his problem,” Baertschi told a crowd of reporters. “He’s got to talk to you guys.”
“You see that and how he handles everything,” Baertschi said. “He fights, and he just sticks ups for his teammates all the time. If you see a guy like him, you can learn a lot.”
“It’s a long way,” he conceded. “It’s going to take a lot. But I’m sure some day, somebody will be the new Jarome Iginla here.”

The decision, according to left winger Alex Tanguay, belongs to Kiprusoff and Kiprusoff alone.
Quote:
“He turned this franchise around when he came here from a non–playoff team to a Cup contender,” Tanguay said. “He’s certainly a very good goaltender, but at this point in time, it’s time for him to decide what he wants to do. We would sure like to have him back, but I think your mind needs to be in the right place.”
Tanguay witnessed a similar transition in Colorado with one of the best goaltenders in the history of the game, Patrick Roy.
“I was with Patrick when Patrick retired,” he told reporters. “His mind was just ready to go and do something else.
“If Miikka’s mind is to play hockey, we’ve seen what he can do the last couple of games. If his mind is to do something else, then I’m sure he’ll let you guys know before anybody else.”

Intriguing use of present-tense by young Sven. He'll no doubt be shattered when he learns that Iggy was in fact traded a month ago.

Humourous (sort of), but using the present tense is fairly common for non-first-language English speakers.
