I like both, but would take Monahan. Monahan is the type of player who durring playoff time could really excell. Big, 2-way game, and great at faceoffs. That is big in the playoffs.

This is the first time in awhile I've seen a defenceman compared to Al MacInnis... http://thehockeywriters.com/ryan-pul...spect-profile/

Prohibitive if it means you get the two top forwards in the draft, teammates to boot, who are putting up a ton of points, and who will step in right away to be 2/3 of the top line in 5 months.

Sure, it could turn into a Falloon/Whitney type thing down the line, but if it costs you a higher pick plus risking one of your decent young forwards, its a risk possibly worth taking.

All I know is that I will have a meltdown if at #6 with either or both of Lindholm or Monahan available, we take someone else.

Why? Because CP said I should. I hadn't heard of either of these players prior to this thread.

I myself dont know anything about the kids that are going to be drafted but i will honestly react the same way the majority of this fine message board will react come draft day.
So you're just going to rage no matter what happens?

How high do people think it would possible for the flames to trade up with the pit and stl picks? If they take a forward with their pick, I would be happy if the flames traded up to get a higher end D prospect. Zadorov? Pulock?

It happens every year. A group of posters latch onto some name they've only recently heard of, and when the Flames inevitably pick a different kid, the posters go insane.

At least this year we're picking early enough, and there are 3 names or so tossed around, we may not have a huge riot... but I doubt it.

I have this daydream that with Pittsburgs pick the Flames snag Tigers captain Hunter Shinkarik.

He is a special player, I have watched junior hockey for 25 years, the team that gets this guy will be better for it. Creative, offensive, sneaky and has a nose for the net. I don't remember the last time the Tigers named a 17 year old their captain (Trevor Lindon maybe)

He probably isn't ready to make the jump in 2013/14 because he needs to lead he Tigers on a deep payoff run next year

"And you know, we were actually quite close to trading two of our three first round picks, leading up to the draft, as part of a package to acquire winger Todd Bertuzzi. Around that time however, we had John Weisbrod sail through a ferocious typhoon to the Falkland Islands to watch yesterday's sixth overall choice, Skyler Skidmark, play. At first he said "where are you sending me here?" but after the game called back and remarked that Skidmark would likely, 40 years down the road, be viewed as the best player to ever play the game, so we convened as a hockey operations group and ultimately chose to keep the picks and make the selection."

Last year's was especially entertaining. I think it was Lt. Spears (?) who lost his mind about trading down and drafting Jankowski, only to have it turn out that in an earlier poll he voted for Jankowski as the guy we should take with our 14th pick.

Realistically, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Feaster pick Nurse at #6 and pass up on the available forwards. (the most controversial outcome at that pick that I can see), which isn't too extreme.

But I say this because he had specified after the Iggy trade that they were going to build "from the net out", shortly after grabbing Berra and Cundari (G + D). He also mentioned most recently in his interview their perceived need for defensive strength. Just leads me to believe that they'll have a lot of d-men high on their list.

But I hope that the Calgary pick specifically is used on a forward, as unless a d-man is generational, or best in a decade elite, then imo most, if not all top 10 picks should be spent on the best available forwards. Also, I've been sold on Lindholm and Monahan recently, seeing what sort of elite potential both possess and what that could mean for us.

Don't be surprised at all to see 2/3 of the first round picks used on d-men, though.. Just a hunch.

And he denied it even when confronted by the evidence?

He was a sweet guy. Whatever happened to him?
