2-3 year contracts has the risk of him going all Jackman on the Flames. Do it in 1 year increments. You know he wants to be here and, if you want him back, you can make him work for the money.

Yeah, signing McGrattan for 3 years is insanity.

Except we wouldn't be paying McGratton to do anything other than goon it up and whoop some ass. There are not many guys bigger than him and he can actually fight unlike Jackman. Not sure I'd go 3, but a 2 year deal would be sufficient. McGratton doesn't strike me as a guy who would sign a 2 year deal then play like a ##### like Jackman did.

Hopefully we re-sign him. Sure he may take up a roster spot from a rookie/young player, but he is the only one who stands up for anyone on the team.

Just waiting to see if Jay Feaster speaks today or not. If he doesn't, likely would hear from him Tuesday. #Flames

I would think Feaster will address the media on Tuesday, after the lottery is complete. He'll have a lot more to discuss, I'm sure.

Sounds like Feaster will actually be talking tomorrow. That'll do it from the Saddledome today, though. #Flames

I think Jackman is fine... he's just been miscast as the team's only fighter so he had to take on guys who he couldn't deal with and it effected his game. When McGratton joined the team, he started to play better.

If Feaster is addressing the media at noon tomorrow, is Weisbrod going to be in T.O for the Lotto? Or is there something else afoot in Flames land.

Only the bottom 5 teams will have a representative in Toronto. If one of the other teams wins the lottery, TSN will talk to their GM by phone.

Giordano's comment about how we doesn't think we are going to be rebuilding next season scares me. The fact he's touted as the next captain and a big piece of the core he would probably have a good idea where the franchise is headed.

This made me think of something... who would most pick as the Flames scoring leader next year? For years you could just pencil in Iginla. Next year you've got all kinds of candidates - Cammy, Tanguay, Stempeniak, Hudler, Glencross, Baertchi, Draft Pick, Backlund if you're being generous.

I doubt Stempeniak would have gotten many votes last year but he did finish tied with Cammalleri.

What is the core of this team going into next season?

Giordano
Brodie
Backlund
Baertschi
Glencross

This draft hopefully adds 1 impact player to that group.

Just finished watching the first batch of player interviews for G-bag day.

Cammy has a great demeanor but I get the sense he is on his way out.

Gio sounds like he's going to stay.

Backlund is going to be here a while I think

Sven sounds like he is going to be the biggest gym rat this summer. Likely to come back ten pounds heavier.

There was no video on Glencross or Tanguay yet. But the tweets about Tanguays comments led me to believe he will be on his way out as well. Glencross isn't going anywhere as should be expected.

Ryan Whitney not a happy camper with the Oilers.

Whitney leaves very frustrated. "I'm not going to name any names, but there were definitely some other guys who could have been scratched."

"I'm hoping to sign on a really good team. I've made enough money and I'm hoping to prove them(Oilers) wrong." Ryan Whitney on being a UFA
So the Oilers win the prize for more exciting garbage bag day in Alberta.

His tweet seemed fairly pissed off too. I take it that it's public knowledge that he was never going to re-sign with the Oilers?

Jeez, the Oilers seem to frustrate and antagonize their own players a lot. Sure is "something special" going on up north...

Whitney was prime trade bait, but then the Oilers went on their little pre-trade deadline run and probably decided to keep him based on the possibilities. There's also the possibility Lowe was busy schomoozing tier 1 fans on trade deadline day after getting Smithson and forgetting about Whitney.

Ryan Whitney, there's hope after Edmonton jerks you around...unlike other team's blacklisting you, getting on the Oilers blacklist is a positive to other teams around the league - See Souray, Sheldon.

As far as the Flames, said before, will say again, I think Tanguay's gone...trade, maybe, but don't see too many takers, so my money is still on a buyout so the Flames don't have his contract for 3 more years. Cammalleri probably traded at the draft; I'm sure he's not going to have much objection to that either.
