For next season, I can't decide if I'm McRavin' for McDavid, or if I'm McRabid for McDavid.

Somewhere in this thread, someone posted that a journeyman center cost us a franchise center. How right they were.

*heavy sigh*

What a depressing night for OOT scores. Couldn't even get ONE of the games to go in our favor, but that is to be expected as a Flames fan. Team never does itself any favors so don't know why I still have any hope that other teams might.

Bye bye potential franchise player, just adds to what is starting out to be an AMAZING looking rebuild. This team is so hard to cheer for.

/END RANT, Sorry had to vent a bit, will be back to my usual hopelessly hopeful self that the future will get better with this team soon.

Except he's not eligible for the draft until the year after next so I'm sure we'll be just good enough to not be in contention by then. Remember, we don't do anything right.

I know it's short sighted, but part of me is proud to say that the Flames have never been gift wrapped a top 5 draft pick - the only team in the league that can say that.

Even if you go back to the Atlanta days, it's been well over a player's generation since this franchise had one.

Totally agree. All I want out of this draft is a defenceman the caliber of Suter, Coburn, Phaneuf, Seabrook, Burns, Carle, Weber, Enstrom, or Byfuglien.

Or a centre like Carter, Parise, Getzlaf, Kesler, M Richards, Bergeron, or Pavelski.

But that is impossible outside of the top six picks. Especially in the same draft class...

?We're in the top 6 picks. Not to mention next season where we should be even worse then this season.

I've been a Flames fan long enough to know they will f this pick up but thanks for trying to put a positive spin on it. As I said, I'm sure my blind positivity will come back soon enough, just let me be bitter about tonight's unfortunate outcomes would you?!

I remember reading that. My bad. Guess I will put the snazzy signature on hold for a year.

I'm just bummed out.

Meh.

You know, the thing that drew me to the Flames in the first place is that everything this team has achieved has come with dirt under the finger nails and scraped elbows. Franchise players are undeniably good to have and I seriously hope one emerges as Iginla did all those years ago, but as long as they get back to the blue collar work ethic and aspire to be a team that others hate to play against, I think they'll do OK.

It's quite possible actually.

The percentages of success are just a little better further up the pecking order.

All of those players were picked outside of the top six in 2003. We weren't a bad enough team for a top five pick, where many franchise players are selected, but that we can still get an extremely good (or franchise) player with our three first rounders.

Part of the problem has always been that we seem to be unable to draft and develop; the big hope that I have is that recently this seems to be changing. While I hate the wins that cost us draft picks, and it will be very hard over 82 games to keep that up, there is definite promise there.

Draft and develop, draft and develop, repeat and repeat.

It sure beats trading for the greatest collection of 20 goal scorers.

So the Flames are up against a set on the flop and have 2 outs to hit or they miss the first overall pick.

Damn those are crappy odds.

Another way to look at it is that they have the same odds they would have had if the season was cancelled and the went into the lottery with 3 balls (odds that many posters were quite excited about).
