Ok, perhaps he would...but is he allowed to be assigned to Abbotsford?

Maybe. I thought he was out for 5-6 months due to an injury? He might not be ready for camp if he is out for 6 months. Would not want to give him a spot automatically if he can not play exhibition games.

I doubt it because of his age.

Barkov would be able to play in the AHL if that was the choice since he played outside the CHL during his draft year.

I think he could play some NHL next season if he adds a bit of explosiveness in the summer, but even though he's mature for his age, this is still a guy who will turn 18 in september.

When he was diagnosed, it was reported that they expect him to be able to start practicing in June. Haven't heard anything since then.

Thus comes the danger of drafting position. If Nurse is BPA then 3 years it is IMO.

This is in Finnish, but the doctor says that Barkov will likely start practicing in the beginning of June:

It required surgery but it's just a normal injury related to shoulder dislocation. Says it's not that serious.
How much this will affect him this summer, I'm not qualified to judge, but if everything goes well, it sounds like he'll be able to get a decent off season.

I think a #1 centre is far more valuable than a #1 defenceman.
I take the centre when the defenceman isn't clearly a better prospect.

Point taken. But is it more of a gamble reaching for a Monahan or Lindholm(liking less and less) or Niskarussian?

Yes I agree, not comparing Barkov to their guys but the Pens are a great team built around two really top centres and win without anything approaching a franchise dman.
Lots of different ways to build but top 2 line pivots are vital and so tough to get.

Was Barkov picked up in the CHL draft and does any team still hold his rights? If so, then I don't think he can play in the AHL if he didn't make the NHL.
I'd probably just prefer to loan him to a Finnish of Swedish team in that case, like we did with Ortio.

I agree fully. I would also add that it is imperative the Flames draft a #1 center in the next 2 drafts. Looking at 2014 center prospects, the flames best chance to get a #1 center will probably be this year. Don't think they can take the chance of passing up on one of Barkov, Monahan, or Lindholm.

Nurse will go to a team with established Cs, like CAR or TBL

Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you actually have to play in the CHL prior to being drafted by the NHL. Doesn't matter about being drafted by the CHL.
