Oilers win 6-1 tonight, Flames move up the draft order, booyah. Now sitting 6th. Barring a Flames comeback against the Hawks in the third period, tomorrow night's results dictates whether they stay in that spot or jump to 4th.

Any chance Carolina beats Pittsburgh? Maybe Pitt will rest their guys?
I would have thought 0 chance that the Oilers would have won so you never know I guess..

They don't need to beat the Pens, just need 1 point.

Just wondering why this is? cause they're lower in their own conference? Is that the tiebreaker?

Flames have more Regulation + OT wins.

In fact, the Flames have more ROW than some playoff teams.

About as successful tonight as we would have dared to dream.

Are the oilers now locked in?

Would be really awesome for Carolina to get a point tomorrow. I highly doubt Nashville's going to win, Columbus is going to be playing for their lives and it's in Nashville's interest to ice an AHL squad, and the game is in Columbus.

That Carolina game is going to be where our money is made. Carolina gets a point and we can't pick lower than sixth, one of Barkov/Monahan/Lindholm for sure. Carolina doesn't get a point and we slide to sixth with the possibility of picking 7th after the lottery and we could end up facing the Nurse/Nichushkin choice.

Granted Nurse/Nichushkin isn't awful, there's a very real possibility those guys end up being the best players in the draft, however Nurse is reported to be three years away and Nichushkin has all the well-published potential issues.

To sum up: GO WHALERS!

A Tampa bay win in overtime or shootout, and a Nashville win and our dreams will come true.

On NHL.com it has Canes higher in standings. I believe the goal differential would be the statistical tie breaker. No? Flames are -32 and Canes unless the get demolished sit at -27 with 1 game to play.

we have more regulation and overtime wins, so Tampa can't pass us anymore.

yup, it's disappointing. It's a shame, really, that a team that has Stamkos, St Louis, Lecavalier, Hedman and Purcell in the lineup is able to finish below us and get a better draft pick.

The first tiebreaker is regulation and overtime wins.
Calgary 19
Carolina 18
Tampa 17 +1 for winning
Nashville 14

So all of these teams need to finish with more points than the flames to pass us.

exactly. I believe NHL.com only has Carolina higher right now because they have played fewer games ... if they lose in regulation tonight, we'll move ahead of them.
