Wouldn't mind Minter to Denver if they can pull that off. Would address two big needs between him and the DT they took.

ESPN's Suzy Kolber reports Geno Smith isn't sticking around NYC for the second round. Going home.

I'm pretty happy with Hopkins to the Texans. It's about time we put some talent across from AJ.

So making up a person and using it to build public support actually does cost you draft status.

That and being as ghost as the person you invented in the title game.

He didn't look happy when he left.

I think he would have been a late first round pick, but with some other players falling, and some horrible reaches the QB needy team didn't feel the need to trade back into the 1st round to get him.

Same for Te'o.

Long had an impressive 40 time, vertical, broad jump and 20-yard shuttle for OL at the NFL Scouting Combine. Also noted as an immediate starter

Bit of a reach with off field issues but I'm relatively impartial.

Pats get 4 picks for their first rounder giving them 2 in each of the 2nd and 3rd rounds and 3? in the 7th I think.
Looking much better than yesterday and should be able to fill some holes with the extras given by the Vikes.

Interesting tidbits from last nights draft:

Last time a running back wasn’t drafted in 1st round was 1963, when the NFL and AFL held separate drafts.

12 SEC players were taken in the first round, matching 1st-round record of 12 by ACC in 2006.

First time 2 offensive guards were selected in top 10 since 1986.

Cooper at No. 7 is highest drafted guard since Brian Jozwiak was picked 7th in 1986.

1997 was the last time a skill player (QB,RB,TE,WR) wasn't taken in the first 5 picks before tonight.

1968 was only other year 3 offensive lineman taken in first 4 picks (Ron Yary, Bob Johnson and Russ Washington).

2nd time that offensive lineman have been taken 1st and 2nd overall in the draft. Other time was 1968 (Ron Yary, Bob Johnson).

49ers have a few options.

Reid was nothing more than a passing mention by any of the 49er beat writers. He didn't even get a workout, but as Baalke said, "Why would he want to tip off other teams who he was interested in".

I think the Niners moved up when the Saints took Vaccaro. They would have been happy with either but as soon as there was only one left they wanted to be sure to get one of them. And they probably preferred Reid - they need a FS to replace Goldson and Harbaugh had actually aggressively tried to recruit Reid to Stanford.

As for what is next, the way the draft turned out, I think there are a few players they would be more than happy to get (Carradine, Ertz, Hunt, Cyprien were all mentioned at times as potential 49er 31 or 34 picks, and a CB isn't out of the question) . So depending upon the market, I think they would be wanting to move back a few spots.

If no trades back, expect either Carradine or Ertz to be the pick.

Rams and Vikes look to be the winners on day 1.

Bills? Not much else to be said...just a debacle of a pick at that spot.

Cowboys.....not much better but at least they added a pick before they reached.

One of the guys on NFLN said he expected up to 10 CB's to go in the 2nd round. That may be a bit excessive but looks like D will be the order of the day.

Hope Eddie Lacy falls to GB but not likely.

You do know the Bills added 3 picks for trading back right?

Yeah but taking that QB at 16th? could've easily had him in the 2nd round.

I doubt it. Manuel was the highest ranked QB by a number of teams. He likely doesn't make it past the Jags, Eagles, Cards, or Raiders in the second round.

Anyone else call BS on the NFLN's assertion that they weren't being tipped on picks? Mayock sure seemed to get a lot of his guesses right.

They discussed that on one of Rich Eisen's podacsts. All the teams and media get notified but Eisen said their desk asked not to be told. They wanted their reactions to be authentic. But I'm sure making the guess is much easier once you know who is on the clock and who is available.

I know Jason LaCanfora was tweeting them before they were announced. I don't follow him, as I think he's a goof, but I know my timeline was raging at him for doing it.

I think he may have lost a few followers last night.

I don't see how the Eagles don't take Smith if he's still there when they're up, and I don't really have a problem with it if they do. He wasn't worth a first round pick, but when you can potentially grab a franchise QB with your second rounder, I think you have to do it. They also don't have a lot of other glaring needs, and there isn't a corner or safety that is better value at this spot. Even trading down would be a bad move, IMO, unless you're nabbing a first for next year.

BREAKING NEWS...Jerry Jones is still a terrible GM.

Quote:

The Cowboys selection of Travis Frederick is simply a bad use of resources

1. Travis Frederick’s physical measurables are terrible.
At the 2013 Combine, he ran a 5.58 40 time. Only one player was slower. And not only is he slow, but he only did 21 reps on the bench press. That was worst among centers in this draft. To be fair, just because a player tests well at the Combine doesn’t mean he’s going to be a good football player. Conversely, players who test poorly aren’t automatically destined for failure.
However, there is something to be said for the Combine, and players with measuarables as bad as Frederick’s aren’t going to have much upside. What you see is what you’re going to get, and not much more.

2. Centers can be found late in the draft.
Of course, that statement can be made for almost any position and I think it sounds foolish when people apply it to Tom Brady, but I think it applies heavily to RBs and centers. For example, who are the 5 best centers in the NFL, and the 5 worst? I can’t answer that since I haven’t evaluated them all, and while I hate to do this, I’ll use ProFootballFocus’ 2012 rankings as a crutch. Note the draft positions of each grouping of the Top 5:

Ed WerderVerified account ‏@Edwerderespn 58m
To clarify on Travis Frederick: One team rated him a 4th, two had him as a 5th, one a 6th and one a 6-7. Believe Polian graded a 2, McShay 3
