Morrissey has extremely high bust potential... you don't take him over Ristolainen, who has a sweet name, and many scouts say he could play in the NHL next season.

I think a lot of players have a high bust potential even just statistically once you're past the top 10 picks of a draft.
I like Ristolainen too, but I think he'll be gone before the St.Louis pick anyway so it's probably a moot point.

I'm not sure backlund could match lindholm's point totals in the elite league this year, even being 4.5 years older.
these are backlund's numers in the second tier swedish league before his draft
18GP 1G 2A 3PTS
these are lindholm's numbers in the elite league
48GP 11G 19A 30PTS
so 10 times better and in a better league? yeah same exact player
now for fun some real comparables
backstrom elite league
46GP 10G 16A 26PTS
Forsberg elite league
23GP 7G 10A 17PTS
looks damn good to me!

New NHL.com mock drafts: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=667662
Kimelman's draft:
7. Shinkaruk (oh god)
22. Hagg
29. Comrie
Morreale's draft:
7. Nurse
22. Fucale (we really don't need another goalie, nevermind wasting a 1st round pick on one)
29. Morin
Hoffner's draft:
7. Barkov (good... good...)
22. Morrissey
29. Lazar (steal)

dream scenario!
the other two are pretty meh, both have us pick a goalie in the 1st which should be an absolute no-go. And I absolutely don't want Shinkaruk at 7.

While I think that Hoffner's is the best scenerio for the flames, I think his mock draft is the most out to lunch. He has shattenkirk going 4th overall to the preds, Edmonton picking Hagg at 6th overall (he should go somewhere around 20th overall), and Lindholm will slide to 13th overall. Best case scenerio, but most unlikely IMO.

all of these have one of Lindholm or Monahan falling a bit, for example Lindholm still available for PHX at 11 in the Shinkaruk version and available for Detroit at 13 in another one!
I cannot imagine the heads exploding (including mine) if the Morreale route was followed and no forwards were added in the first 3 picks

For some reason the Flames pass on Lindholm for Shinkaruk in Kimelman's draft (he falls all the way to 11) and take Comrie (who just had a hip surgery; 3rd round pick at best), of all goalies, in the 1st.
They are all terrible mocks.

Hoffner is out to lunch. Completely. Hagg at 6th? Edmonton could drop ten spots, get an NHL player out of it, and still pick up Hagg.

OT: How on earth did you find that Avatar. I would hate to see what you put into Google Images to get that one.
Anyways, I have that same feeling that either:
A) Oilers win the draft lotter; or
B) Someone above the Flames wins it.

Don't know enough about him but why does CP not like Shinkaruk.
I understand we prefer Barkov, Lindholm, and Monahan and for good reason but why would Shinkaruk be a bad pick?

Morreale has monahan at 10th
Hoffner has monahan 10th and lindholm 13th
i know those mocks suck
but i still have a glimmer of a whisper of a hint of an inkling we could trade up and get both monahan and lindholm.

He's a fine player, but not when there are two potential 1st line centers there.

You don't draft him at 7th, there's players with greater potential available at that spot.
If we trade down to 11th, Shinkaruk is a great pick.

Shinkaruk, a one-dimensional left winger over Lindholm or Monahan?
Shinkaruk is the perfect fit around 10-15 and a terrible pick before that.

Additionally, can someone sell me on Monahan who's seen him play? I've considered getting either him or Lindholm as a success for the Flames, but I'm strongly leaning Lindholm as my preference. Can someone give me a build up of Monahan that's something other than 'elite potential playing on a bad team'?

It's all about opportunity,Backland in the Swedish league didn't get much ice time and was injured during his draft year, but Backland was a beast at the WJC against his peers...Lindholm not so much.
