It's by playoff finish then points from reg season. So all the teams knocked out in the first round are ranked from where they finished in the reg. season from worst to best. It goes round by round in that process.

It's final regular season standings unless they go to the finals, SC finalists go 29-30th.

What's left...
CGY: @ CHI
CAR: @ PIT
EDM: @ MIN, vs. VAN
NSH: @ CBS
TB: vs. FLA
Tampa cannot pass us because if they win, we'll be tied in points but we have the higher ROW.
Dream scenario: - We lose to Chicago
- Nashville wins
- Carolina gets a point from Pittsburgh
- Edmonton gets some combination of two points
- We draft 4th

30th-Stanley Cup Winner
29th-Stanley Cup Finalist
28th/27th-Conference Finals Finalists
26th-15th-The eliminated teams in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs based on standings (the eliminated division winners getting the worst picks).
So there's still a chance, one in a million, that the Blues pick could be as low as 16th. Leafs, Kings, and Sharks overtake them in the standings and that would require an OT Sharks win against the Kings with a Blues loss. And then conference finals consisting of only Detroit/Columbus/Minnesota (with 1 team missing the playoffs) and New York Rangers /New York Islanders/Ottawa (with 1 team grabbing that 15th pick).

30) SCC
29) SC finalist
27 and 28) conference finalists
next is the division winners, ranked by regular season standings
then the rest of the playoff team, by regular season standings
Blues are currently 8th (because Washington is a division winner)
(based on the current standings) if they don't make the final 4, their pick would be 23rd, unless any of the teams below them make the final 4. The best the pick could be - if 4 lower teams get to the 3rd round - would be 19th

Hopefully we get a player that will be our future captain. Only two players I get that vibe from. Jones and Monahan

Way to early to judge future NHL captain material. Quite a few of these prospects have shown leadership qualities during their junior careers.

Do we need defensemen?
Morrisey 5"11
Ristolain 6"4
Possible to take these guys with the St Louis pick?

So in other words, a STL/PIT final would suck.

I seriously doubt Ristolainen lasts very long. He's been playing in the SM-Liga and is physically ready to step into the NHL next year. Nurse may have more upside but I think he's a safer pick.

At worst we're drafting 8th, at best 4th (barring winning the lottery), but most likely 6, or 7.
Probably Lindholm/Monahan...
|
It's impossible for the Flames to get 8th. We're 3 points out of 8th pick.
I know Nashville, Carolina and Edmonton suck quite badly, but you got to figure at least 1 of them will pass us. The hope is for all 3, but the OOT is never kind. Carolina only needs a point and Edmonton has 2 games. Nashville will play a Columbus team that just missed the playoffs (most likely). Hopefully that means that they all win between now and Saturday night.

Could be quite the epic CP reaction if on draft day the Flames sit with pick #6. Time comes to pick and both Monahan and Lindholm are still available, but instead of Feaster heading to the podium it's Bettman.
"We have a trade to announce.......the Calgary Flames trade the 6th overall pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 14th pick (Jackets), the 16th pick (Rangers) and the 22nd pick (Kings)."
Flames then proceed to pick five players in round 1.
14th - D - Rasmus Ristolainen
16th - C - Curtis Lazar
22nd - C - JT Compher
25th - C - Frederik Gauthier
30th - D - Samuel Morin
Haha

I think Ristolainen, Morrisey and Zadarov are all considered pretty solid, but I think they're all projected to go before 20.

Assuming nothing changes in the standings, if a team behind us wins the lottery, we're picking 8th.

Close...it will be: the Calgary Flames trade the 1st overall pick and the 23rd (St. Louis) to the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 14th pick (Jackets), the 16th pick (Rangers) and the 22nd pick (Kings)."

The Flames will trade down, out of the top ten. Then will use two of their three first round picks on goalies, trading the third for Malcolm Subban.

Funny how you complain about posters whining about losing the chance to draft top three, but have no problem making over-dramatic posts like this whining about fantasy inept management.
