The price tag still makes me shake my head at its absurdity and location with relation to existing bridges that are a 2 min walk away.
Do you walk as fast as cars drive on memorial?

What should be added to this bridge discussion now is the new high density developments in Sunnyside that are under construction or soon to start.

If Sunnyside and Hillhurst were to double or more in density then that alone IMO is worth the extra pedestrian bridge from the City's POV.

Yes, this has been my main argument in favour of the Peace Bridge, especially given that Kensington is already bursting at the seams in terms of peak traffic. The area can support a greater density of population, as long as it does not come with an increase in rush hour traffic, and the way around that is to make sure that the vast number of new residents will be planning to walk or bike downtown for work.

In addition to the density in Sunnyside - rumour has it the Osteria di Medici corner is getting a new development, with possibly high end lofts at the top of a tower.

The development notice is already posted at Osteria. Lots of new condos going into Hillhurst and Sunnyside.

The block where the Lido Cafe is - I understand is to be torn down and replaced with condos.

Coming soon: Ven, St. John's, Pixel, Avenue, Crossings

I have no idea why we build bridges at all. I mean half the year the river is frozen, and the other half of the year we can Ford it.

Think about the millions we will save Silly Hall if we all just took a long stick and piece of plywood across.

It was good enough for my immigrant ancestors, so why do we need to be all uppity and out of touch with our fixed structures over water.

Disgusting.

Troutman - there's a concept for the Osteria di Medici corner already. I believe it'll be modified even further. Not surprised there's a DP notice up already! Whatever happens on that site, it's going to be really cool.

As for that last link - can't stand people that complain like some of those in that article. I understand people like the character of the neighborhood, but technology and people evolve; why can't our neighbourhoods and buildings too? Nothing wrong with getting an injection of new design into a neighborhood that needs it, IMO. I grew up in that neighborhood for 20 years and I welcome the development that people want to see happen there.

I'm not sure how other people think about 10th street, but I hate the Lido cafe and the crap buildings along the east side of that road. There's so much potential to do some cool stuff there. Screw nostalgia... people need to understand that new development can be fun and exciting.

Correct Troutman, the CPA lot, Ant Hill building right up next to Hillhurst Hardware will be another mixed use development by Battistella (apparently with a small boutique hotel component).

The other one not mentioned is directly across the street at the Carpenters Building and empty lot is a proposal for a mixed use building around the same scale as Pixel.

You mean the Carpenters building right?

Definitely sold to the Dobbin group and their partners.

Ugh .. they're going to condo that whole street?

I like the neighbourhood getting denser, but I was hoping that street would remain just retail and not all towers ... even though some of those stores really suck.

Walking down that street on a nice sunny day is a pretty nice thing to do though

As far as no one being able to afford the neighbourhood, that was long ago. I'd love to live in a house there, but it's not in my financial universe.
