If I am going to trade the pick than it needs to be on my terms.
Trading the first overall pick cant be a jail rape scenario like Feaster has done with Regehr and Bouwmeester.
If they cant meet the high price than I keep the pick or trade with Florida and swap positions for their second round pick.

Not sure if that's likely, but might it change Nichushkin's draft status if he's willing, and possibly able, to come over to NA next season?

Where you reading that? All I see is third behind Barkov and Nichushkin for Europeans.

Another 3rd round prospect to look at Viktor Crus-Rydberg.

Say Calgary wins the lottery. We move from say... 6th to first. Is there absolutely any reason for us to trade down? If Colorado is in 4th do we trade with them and take Barkov? Or do we draft Jones/Mackinnon and run?

No reason, we take the guy we want and run.

We win the lottery, I think we make a gentleman's agreement with Colorado and Florida that we trade down, draft MacKinnon (leaving Jones / Drouin for Florida / Colorado) and get a 2nd rounder out of this mess. That'll be almost like a late first, given it's probably #32 or #33.

Quick question. If CGY does win the lottery, do all picks rounds 1-7 end up being top of the order as well? or just the first pick?

Just the first round pick changes order.

Why do Colorado or Florida give up a second rounder if they know you don't want their guy?

Yeah, and a gentleman's agreement with Colorado might not work so well after we just tried to screw them.

1) If Jones is BPA and the Flames are picking first then logically we should pick Jones, thus denying either team from getting him. The Flames may be desperate for a #1C but we also need a #1D.
2) If the Flames is willing to not pick Jones and makes the same offer to both teams and both teams wants Jones, then they would both want to make the trade in order to prevent the other one from doing so.
3) If both teams are willing to trade then go with Florida as a trade partner as the #2 overall pick is better than #3.

That's basically what I'd do. Trade down with Florida if they take one of Drouin or Jones then trade down #2 to the Aves, Then Draft MacKinnon or Barkov at the #3 spot. I'd also ask them each to throw in a 7th rounder.

If you're wondering why the 7th rounders it's because we were told that during the lockout the Flames reassigned their pro scouts to collegient level hockey. So we should have a good idea about a bunch of NCAA guys I'd use that knowledge to draft the previously undrafted guys (Underclassmen only though) who my scouts believe is going to be the next Dekayser (undrafted guys who in retrospect were worthy of being draft worthy) thus giving us a competative advantage in signing them.

If the Flames pick first and Florida and Colorado follow chances are that both teams want Jones. If the Flames scouts love both Druin and MacKinnon to the point they are fine with either I would aks the Avalanche for their 1st, 2nd and 4th round picks for the first pick and let the Panthers know that if they want Jones they will have to match (which gives the Flames their choice) or better that offer. Win-win for the Flames as chances are both of those teams are dying to get their hands on Jones and will pull the trigger. The Avalanche know they will have to pick ahead of the Panthers to get Jones so I don't see why they wouldn't want to deal. If the Panthers pass you make the deal with the Avs and take whichever forward the Panthers don't take and hope that you can find some players with the 2nd and 4th round picks.

So you can't trade the pick to a different team who does what their guy.
