We were visited by this DC-10 fire bomber this morning. It was a dry run to see if it was able to be filled at an alternate location on the airfield, as our ######ant filling station can't fit the wingspan.
I remember seeing this bird around YBW in my flight training days.
Reports are that one engine failed, and notably the single engine service ceiling for the Cougar would be around 4500' in ideal conditions. So no surprise he ended up settling onto terra firma. Good job by the pilot and glad he is ok.

I've spent my fair share of hours in DBD. Its interior had recently received a huge make-over and it was always made available by the owner for a great price since being retired from the training fleet. 'Tis a bloody sad day.
Your only problem would be finding a lawyer to defend you in court.
If you got the lucky shot that actually hit an intake the fan would chew that ball up and spot it out and the pilot probably wouldn't even know it happened. You might tweak a blade so the airline would not be happy.
It would have to be a hell of a shot. Most of the planes are still pretty high when over the beach. We are in St. Maarten right now and literally just got back from that beach. What a way to spend a dinner!
Just heard a nasty rumour that the Air Cadet gliding program is in danger of being totally cancelled effective September 1 (i.e. after this summer's class) because of budget cutbacks. Here's hoping that's not the case. It would be a damn shame for the country to lose such a wonderful program that gave so many Canadians their start in aviation (Chris Hadfield being probably the most well-known example).

This is popping up on my facebook from friends within DND, I think it's more than a rumour. We have a couple gliders on base here and a friend of mine tows for them, I'll let you know when I hear more.
National Air Cargo 744 crashed just after takeoff at Bagram, Afghanistan.
Quote:
Several observers on the ground reported the National Air Cargo Boeing 747-400 had just lifted off when it appeared to have stalled and came down erupting in a blaze.
According to a listener on frequency the crew reported the aircraft stalled due to a possible load shift.
