This is shameless. I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames brass get an angry call from the league after this.

For reducing tanking: Make the draft order based on the sum of the losses prior to the trade deadline or some other arbitrary day late in the season, plus the wins following that date.
Sellers at the deadline would have a huge headstart (most losses), but would want to win games until the end of the season.

Well, they are still starting Kipper over Irving so I wouldn't say it's a total tank job.

For years, we've heard that Kipper can win games by himself. Tonight, they're putting that to the test.

They have been playing with a roster not that much improved from what they will ice tonight and have been on quite the streak. Big difference between giving the kids the chance to go play their hearts out and to try to win and what some other teams are doing in just icing what should be a quality NHL team and outright trying to lose.
As long as they try to win I'll cheer for them.

This thread made me both laugh and cry.
I will be amazed if Nashville manages to lose this one.
Then again, I was slightly shocked to see Red Wings and Wild play that poorly, too.

They would be way down the list for phone calls. Nashville will ice a much better lineup skill/experience/etc wise and still manage to somehow lose. The assorted 10 teams that the Flames will end up ahead of in the standings while throwing away any chance at one of the top picks in a very good draft will have out tanked them. 10 phone calls later Betty will be too tired to give Feaster much grief.
Never fear as the Flames are consistent -- they can't do anything right.

Don't worry. Kipper will pull his hamstring during pregame stretches and Irving will fill in. Just don't want to tip your hand so Nashville has a chance to change things.

I am tired of people just hating on Irving, despite how badly he played his numbers are still better than Kipper's

as I posted above Irving actually has better number than Kipper this year, they would be starting MacDonald if they wanted to win.

The players may try to win, but it's clear the franchise isn't. At least go down swinging. I was fine with the last few games because the rookies were in due to injuries, but now they are playing bottom 6 AHL players in place of top 6 NHLers who are healthy, that is not acceptable to me.

Did you take a look at the Predators lineup? League should be investigating both teams.

are the Preds sitting out a bunch of NHL regulars as healthy scratches? Honest question, I am not sure what their injury situation is.

CP has a lot of whiners. Some want us to win, so we ice a 1/2 decent lineup, and we win. Some want us to lose, so we ice a crappy lineup- one that's as bad as possible. Either way, there are a huge amount of whiners. Some people complain b/c we never seem to develop young talent or give them a shot.
This season is over. The games left....are what we have to see which players can play at the NHL level. It is an audition for next season. The people we have benched are those that we A) will not use AT ALL next year B) Have proven themselves to be regular roster players for next year.
Why do we always have to complain? I'm excited watching this young team. I'm excited that these players are actually doing well. I'm excited that the flames organization may have a future.

Meaningless games, I've been one of the biggest "always win" supporters around here as I'm sure many will agree too as I've had my fair share of arguments over the past few weeks with the "lose now" crowd. Even I can admit that these are meaningless games so given that a handful of these players will be with the team next season, this is absolutely the perfect time for them to both get some NHL experience and for the team to evaluate what they will bring to the team.
As I said to me, there is a huge difference between icing a team that will compete for the win with 100% effort and icing a team that could well be in the playoffs yet "somehow" manages to lose to an AHL roster. Of course management want's to lose for a higher pick, this I would say is still far better than what the Avs have been doing and outright playing to lose.

I'm curious why they would try so hard for a better draft position... Is it safe to say, there's a player Weisbrod/Flames scouts really like, and it's really important to us to get top 6, top 5 to ensure we get this player?
I don't know if it's even worth it to pull this otherwise.

Their excuse is injuries. We benched Backlund, Cammalleri, Stajan?

How is it that trying in vain to win (even though they couldn't do it when it mattered) and accomplish nothing is somehow more admirable in your eyes?
At least this shows the franchise isn't completed diluted into thinking these wins really matter. I'd much rather draft an impact player (by losing some useless games) then roll the dice on an average first rounder because the team won a few meaningless games.

There is also a huge difference between icing a team that has a chance to win and icing a team that is telling the players and fans that the franchise doesn't give a ####.
I have accepted the team sucks. I have accepted that a top 5 pick is a possibility. But I won't accept icing a team that probably wouldn't meet minimum requirements for a pre-season game. This does not send a good message to the players.

Kipper doesn't let in 6 goals a game very often. Kipper is a bonafide NHL goaltender. Kipper has experience. He really has nothing to play for, but still keeps the score close and is a valuable, wise asset.
Irving is young. Not proven. He is inconsistent. As a up-and-coming NHLer, you have to out-compete who you are replacing (someone who plays MUUCH more than you, and is worn down from a season of play). If you can't do that by a significant margin, you are not going to replace him. It's a business.
Think about it. If you and your coworker are competing for a promotion and you might have a sliiiiiiiiiiight edge on performance, but your coworker has 10 years of experience and knows how everything works -> will you get the promotion? No.
