Complete apples to oranges comparison there. Yes, we know American real estate is comparably cheaper. It's because the United States has traditionally had lower housing values than Canada coupled with the fact that there was a near collapse of the American housing market in 2008.

i had heard Iggy had built his house somewhere in the $6 million range. Hard to believe he would be taking a $2 million dollar hit. Not saying it's not his house, but seems curious is all.
and further comment, wouldn't it seem more reasonable he sell his home after this season? Not in the middle? Not to mention that he is 1 month outside of being away from Calgary (in a hotel), where his family and friends have been for 15+ years? I would figure he would be keeping his kids here to at least finish out the school year...
He hasn't even won a cup yet (not saying he won't or that I don't want him to), but this seems very much like putting the cart before the horse...

The median income for a household in [Portland] is $40,146. ( From Wikipedia) Jesus Christ, you could make that much working at a fast food restaurant in Calgary if you picked up a few overtime shifts.

Interesting. Same wiki link has a median family income of $50,271. Calgary's median family income was 89,470 in 2010. http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tabl...il107a-eng.htm
Not sure if there area any methodology differences (probably) but even if they're significant, that's a huge income disparity.
Also, it's not the median income that's buying Warrener's house, it's the 1%, and I bet the difference in top percentile incomes is even greater.

Providing you don't have children to care for, take public transit, or do anything ouside of work and sleep otherwise you are pretty wrong as I can personally attest being in that income range and not being able to properly afford an $800k house.
