Default Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been playing with a shoulder injury

http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/sports/nhl...ns-injury.html

"It's something I've got to look into and take of," said Nugent-Hopkins. "It's something that's been nagging at me for a couple years.

"It got a little bit worse and it's something that has to be taken care of eventually. We all decided it was time."

Good to see the Oilers let their first overall pick play with a shoulder injury. Who runs that team, medically? Is Ryan Smyth the team doctor?

Looks like Sheldon Souray had a point.

I wonder who handled the "magic spray" (used in soccer for on field injuries), assuring RNH that it was healing the shoulder, each game?

Souray of course had a point, to which the Oilers buried him in OKC to shut him up. Remember the Oilers also tried to send guys the Kings doctors flagged as injured, twice, a couple years ago to complete a trade.

We've had a glimpse into Lowe's hiring procedures over the past week, and over the years, his old school mentality pretending its still 1983 ("So RNH should just suck it up like Lee Fogolin did") so it really isn't that much of a surprise.

Maybe this is why they did so bad this season.

Did the Oilers even manage to get 100 games out of RNH in his first two years of his ELC? That's bad asset management.

When Steve Begin is outscoring you, and Brian McGrattan has the same number of goals, it hasn't been a good year.

Good.

This still bottles the mind. Tried to pass off a player as healthy when he wasn't. Bad enough on it's own, but then to try to do it all over again....to the same team?!

At a certain point you can't help but agree with Souray's assesment of their medical staff.

So can we safety say that he shouldn't have been in the NHL straight after being drafted?

I don't know about "good".

I kind of feel bad for him. His career might be taking a different turn now that the Oilers have made him play with an injury.

The Oilers are truly a pathetic bush league organization. Souray brought it to the NHL's attention and now who wants to play for the Oilers? Players who have a choice will most certainly not pick the Oilers.

I don't know depends on what the health of his shoulder was. He is too advanced for Junior, but can't play in the AHL.

What baffles me is that the organization had to know a lockout would happen. So why not fix it in the offseason knowing there would be a longer offseason for recovery. It's like they were too cheap to pay for shoulder surgery for two of their players, or their doctors don't speak English well enough to let these guys know what will happen if they try to play thru the injury.

That the Oilers tried to rush him back from injury and pressure players to play injured.

The guy is like a 170lbs. My dog weighs more than that. He needs to put on some beef.

This one is more recent, from last month, in an article referencing how valuable he is this years to the Ducks.

And it was Hershey, not OKC he was demoted to as I had said.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...,6863951.story

As Souray tells it, he had been hospitalized for four days for an injured hand that had become infected in 2010. A doctor told him the hand was in danger of being lost, and no one from the Oilers organization had called him. When the phone rang, it was an Edmonton reporter "telling me the team thought I was milking the injury. That lit the stick of dynamite," Souray said.

"So I shared my opinion of how I was being handled and how the organization was being handled. Right or wrong, I was out of line. I had come from first-class organizations in New Jersey and Montreal and was used to that type of professionalism. When I didn't see those things, I spoke up.

Shame that they handled RNH this way. They really should have let him get surgery as soon as possible instead of letting him play. Poor asset management in my books.
