But yeah, a fully healthy Kipper from day 1, or, not having to spin the roulette wheel of backups as was done, instead having MacDonald full time...well, I think the result would disappoint a lot of people here.

That's because there's a good chance we have maybe 3+ more wins/or 6+ more points which would have the team in the dog fight right now for 8th in the West.

At least 80%. Probably higher.

Didn't he tweet that he was coming? Or looking forward to it, or something to that effect?

Okay... I would say that MacDonald has earned another NHL contract from the Calgary Flames with his play this year. Not that it really matters, but did he deserve a raise?

He's very propably looking at a lot more games next season. Personally I expect him to be our #1 at least to start the season.

I don't like the Idea of Calgary running with Macdonald in net. He needs to control those rebounds.

Asset management.

If Kipper retires, he ompetes for more games.

If Kipper doesnt retire, he can be moved for a pick based on his play while here and demonstrating he has recovered from the back injury.

I never realized he was already on a one way contract, so if Detroit thought he was worth it, I guess that is what it takes to sign him. If you didn't notice though I said it was a good signing. It will be bring some stability to our goalie situation which is otherwise up in the air with many possibilities.

Btw, if Ramo is the guy next year, i really want the greatest Finnish goalie of all time teaching him how to go from Nhl afterthought as a mid twenties goalie to superstar.

Im a big fan of the mentor thing.

Because Kipper has been such a great mentor and helped out his back-ups so much?

Or

Because great players (ones with say 5 SC rings like Lowe) just naturally make better Hockey managers?

as to the importance of being good in the room..... part of Luongo's demand's when he was in the top goalies in the world in 2005-06 was that Jamie McLennan be signed as a his backup.

Now that he has a signed contract he can lose the last 4 games of the year and get the Flames a better draft pick.

Is moving up from 8th pick overall to 4th pick overall worth 900k??

You want Ramo playing at least 62 games next year? Or are you hoping Berra gets some games too?

If Berra gets games I agree with you, I think 42 for Ramo & 20 for each Berra and MacDonald is fine. But if its just Mac & Karri next year I hope Ramo sees no more than 55 games.

None of the players or coaches are going to try and lose, no matter how much some fans here want them too.

In a perfect situation, Ramo and Berra will split time and MacDonald will be in the AHL. We want our young players out preforming the veterans at this point. We're talking about a veteran that has averaged about 10 NHL games a season for 5 NHL teams since he went pro. He is the definition of a fringe player. Whatever the odds are (and I personally think they should be good if they are both given a fair shot).

If neither Ramo or Berra can outplay him, then we are in big trouble. Ideally, both should have a shot. I just hope his (MacDonald's) one-way $925k contract doesn't get in the way.

Agree with that, But MacDonald openly stated that he was using the last part of the year as a tryout for a new contract with either the Flames of some other team.

He was playing as well as he ever has. Now he has the contract..... If he goes 0-4 it does not cost him anything.... These last 4 games would have been playoff games for MacDonald had he been auditioning for a contract. Now they are basically meaningless to him.

If he wins all 4 with shutouts it will not have as much impact on his future as to how he does in next year's exhibition games playing against other teams AHL laddened rosters.

If MacDonald is well liked in the room he could have inspired the rest of the team to play better for his sake.... Like they did for Kipper's last game.

Now there is just one more Flame playing out the year, hoping not to get hurt and planning what to do when the playoffs start.

If MacDonald plays like he doesn't care then he will not be given starts.

That's something to play for, is it not?

If MacDonald is playing like he just doesn't care, we will know it because at first he will wave his arms in the air.
