Police searched a 20 block interior section of the city with negative results. Crime scene is still active, won't be collapsed for a couple of hours.

Seems as though they're confident that they have him within a perimeter. At least I hope that's what that means.

I interpreted it as the totally other end of the spectrum...that they don't know where he is and they're stopping door to door searches.
And the police colonel states they "didn't have enough manpower for a perimeter". (after the original gun fight early this morning)

Police don't have "direct knowledge" he's in the Boston area, but confident he wouldn't be far.

I doubt they could hold a perimeter on the area they were searching. Just looking at the map and where they have been looking it would be a 25x20 block radius with golf courses, cemeteries, river, large buildings and probably 1500 homes. And that's only taking into account areas they thought he was over the scanner, who knows what they are talking about outside of that.

Both suspects were not involved in the armed robbery, simply were there at the same time. Police reviewed CCTV and saw them on the tape.

Damn. I read it as they were pulling out of other areas to zero in on the one neighborhood even more.

Yeah I could see the confusion, though the follow up questions pretty much confirm they don't know where he is.

I am amazed that he has eluded capture for this long.
Maybe fell in the river and has drowned and is floating aimlessly downstream.

Police convinced they did "absolutely everything they could" in that neighbourhood. Suspect #2 abandoned a car and was last seen on foot and is believed to have fled on foot.

Anyone catch where he dumped the car? Like a cross street in Watertown?

My guess is that he's out of the area, and hiding in some other Boston location. he's probably hidden so well he's catching up on sleep at the moment.
That, or like greyshep said, he's floating down the river. Face-first, hopefully.

I'm guessing the original perimeter they set up was quite shoddy if one guy could escape 9000 cops looking for him within said perimeter.
Now he'll either turn up in someones basement or in another state. If he turns up at all.
This guys would be awesome at cops and robbers.

Firstly, they didn't have 9000 cops last night when they set up the original perimeter. They also said that with their manpower last night, the resources dedicated to the first aid of the hurt police officers, provided a very weak perimeter.
