So to our Laker fans: How do you want tonight to go? Would you prefer this abortion of a season end tonight mercifully, or is getting swept by OKC a more preferable end? I'll be curious to see how they play if Utah wins, I think they might just tank to end it.

There are a couple scenarios to this:
Lakers Win, Rockets Lose, Utah Loses -> Lakers 7th
Lakers Win, Rockets Lose, Utah Wins -> Lakers 7th
Lakers Lose, Rockets Win, Utah Loses -> Lakers 8th
Lakers Lose, Rockets Win, Utah Wins -> Lakers 9th
I'm a fan of the bolded.

I'm sure Laker fans would rather get humiliated in the playoffs then finish 9th.

Can't wait until they make it as the 8th seed, get swept and PeteLFan comes in here to say they would have won if they had Kobe

I'm hoping for 7th - the only chance they have. I think they can hang with San Antonio and possibly win a couple of games and then you never know.

Parker will humiliate the Lakers. So will any top level PG...oh wait, there's only 3 of those in the West, and 2 other guys who are pretty damn good. Lakers cannot defend enough, I would have given them maybe a 30% chance of winning a series if they had Kobe, but its down to less than 5 to me.

I would say 5% chance they can win without Kobe, 0% if he were still healthy.
That 5% is based on the other teams starters all getting injured and the refs giving the Lakers every call like they did in the regular season against the back-ups of Spurs/Thunder.

I am glad the lakers made the playoffs.
I am giving hem more of a shot in the playoffs than most. I think that Howard, Gasol, artest, Nash and Jmieson will revel in the underdog role.

Any team with Nash running the point (though I say that loosely on the Lakers), is a threat. If Artest doesn't make boneheaded fouls, him and Nash will be pouring it on every shift.

Lakers biggest game of the season and Gasol tosses out a 20 rebound, 17 point, and 11 assist performance. 2 blocks dont hurt either
The guy is such a clutch player.

If this Lakers sans Kobe team can beat or put up a good fight against the Spurs, does it mean Kobe is a Ewing theory candidate?

I dig this NY Times blog about the Brooklyn blackout for the playoffs...

I don't think so because Kobe has won 2 titles without Shaq as "the guy".

Home teams went 8-0 over the weekend, which should come as no surprise to anyone. My god the NBA is terribly predictable, quite frankly the playoffs are essentially unwatchable until the third round at the earliest. We already know the Heat are in the finals, and that there is a 90% chance that one of the Thunder or Spurs will be the team from the West.
You could never say the same thing about the NHL, or even the NFL or MLB anymore.
The league should change it's slogan to "The NBA where the predictable happens".

My theory is that bball is a sport that you do the same thing many times in a game, shooting the basketball at the basket. Therefore the laws of average usually apply.
In other sports where scores are much lower, a touchdown or a hockey goal can cause upset to happen.

A little love for the Golden State Warriors and their incredible shooting performance last night. 64.6% from the field, highest in a playoff game since 1991. Pretty amazing to take score 131 on only 79 shots.
