Don't know much about the guy. First thought was it's more of what they already have. But you collect assets - they're not always going to claim a roster spot on your team. Sometimes they're chips used to shore up areas of weakness. Who knows if or when he'll even play for the Oilers at the NHL level.

I can't knock a team for creating an asset out of nothing, and I wish the Flames could do it more often.
That being said it is pretty Oiler-ish to go after the small skilled forward. You would think, just as PR move, that maybe they would act like something has changed up there under the "new" management

I kind of want the Flames to load up on huge forwards just so we can continue to crush the petite Oilers like bugs.

Meh...
5'8" player that will be 25 before the start of next season. He is a huge longshot. Not that it isn't worth the risk, but the odds are really stacked against him.
Half the teams in the league showed interest, and probably a number of those see him as a fringe NHLer or and AHLer. The Oilers probably stroked his ego the most.

I am not sure why everyone is ragging on this. The more legitamite prospects the better in my opinion. This gives them depth at what they already have, but does this give them insurance if they want to move a Hemsky/Eberle/Gagner/Yakupov? They move 1/2 of those guys for a big winger and a top pairing D man. The team becomes pretty good. Now you add this guy to fill in the hole of a vacated Gagner...
Pretty smart in my opinion.

I am not sure how much of a legitimate prospect he is and if he is filling in for Gagner next year then I absolutely love this signing (as a Flames fan.)

Looks like Arcobello Insurance. If that guy walks, Andrew Miller is just the guy to help the OKC Barons get into the playoffs again. Won't count against the Veteran limit. Good pick up.

Isn't there a CBA rule that if an undrafted NCAA FA signs after the NHL trade dead line that he can not play in the NHL reg season or NHL affiliate reg season?

I dunno. Maybe? Andrew Miller won't play for OKC until next season from the articles though. Oilers are at 50 contracts already anyway, his doesn't start until next season.

I've seen Yale play in person a few times over the last few years and I've been more impressed with Agostino. Miller's more of a playmaker, whereas Agostino is more of a goal-scorer who also works well along the boards. But Miller and Agostino seemed to play well together... I was kind of hoping that he would sign with Calgary so they could continue that chemistry with the Flames. But alas, Miller decided that the Edmonton Oilers were the best fit for him.
If I recall correctly, Miller was a center for most of his collegiate career, but really blossomed this year when Coach Allain moved him to the wing and inserted "Pittsburgh native" Jesse Root between him and Agostino. It'll be interesting to see what position he ends up playing in Edmonton... perhaps that discussion was part of his decision making process.

I don't pretend to know, as I have only seen them in the Frozen Four.
But their stats this year were identical
Miller: 18G 41P
Agostino: 17G 41P
But Agostino is 4 years younger, bigger, and was drafted.
