If karma is a thing, we're going to win the draft lottery, because we're definitely giving more of an effort than the other teams near the bottom of the league.

I watch Brodie and am impressed. Reinhart has shown me more than I expected as well. So your overreaction seems to be wrong.

Seriously, I think it's great that they dropped Detroit to 9th place. I also think that some people overstate the importance of getting one top pick in one draft. The top-3 aren't guaranteed superstars and it's hardly a tragedy to draft Lindholm or Monahan. You need years of good drafting and good management decisions to build a winning team, picking a couple of spots later in one draft isn't going to ruin the rebuild.
|
I agree. Having these kids purposely tank would be more detrimental to the organization then dropping a few places in the draft. We're not losing on purpose for one unknown guy while we have 20 guys here who want to win.

Lost in this is a regulation season sweep over the wings. No team who loses all games in regulation has any business in the playoffs.

Yeah, and Detroit lost 4 of 5 games to Columbus too. Columbus at the time was the worst team in the west as well and Detroit has been finished playing games with Columbus for over a month. No team that lost all those games deserves to be in the playoffs.

Not sure I have seen anyone use the term guarantee but it certain increases the chances of picking a better player. I would think every GM out there not just Lowe would know this.

Sure, but that doesn't make your false dichotomy any less ######ed.

Call it whatever you want. I don't really care as there is no consolation for winning at garbage time. You only need to take a look at the more talented teams (Lightning, Hurricanes, Avalanche, Predators) losing out to see that NHL management recognizes the importance of draft position over winning meaningless games.

So those teams are tanking on purpose?

<removed> It takes a special kind of <removed> to seriously suggest that teams are telling their players to lose deliberately.

Screw it. I like this hard work / youth movement / winning that's going on. We're doing it WITHOUT a MacKinnon or Drouin. These wins are awesome. Very character building, and great for the young guys to know what it feels like, especially with a city behind them hoping for success.
Let's get a Monahan in there, and let's start winning by committee.
Some people forget that we can win if we have a strong lineup from top to bottom, not just superstars up top.

LOL you are one classy fella. Not going to get into your childish mud slinging but Duhatschek was on the radio this morning talking about this situation and said from what he has seen he doesn't believe the Hurricanes and Predators will win another game this season and how do you explain that? I don't think anyone believes that coaches are walking into the dressing rooms and saying "okay boys, management wants us to lose out". Like Drager said last night Maurice talked about the year they drafted Staal that the team was decimated down the stretch and needed help but Rutherford told him he would receive no help. Wether you believe it or not tanking behind the scenes goes on wether it be coaches easing up on the practices, giving more ice time to young players and letting things slide or GM's not supplying help.

Teams aren't losing on purpose but all the blowhards taking cheapshots at people who want the Flames to get a better asset and meaningless victories...
Steve Begin scored two fluke goals and we are now 3 or 4 draft places lower. There's no positive spin or good thing about that. The young guys didn't "learn how to win" from that pathetic gritless game. The team is poorer asset wise today.
Even if all the idiots saying Monahan is as good as MacKinnon or Barkov are in line with the Flames thoughts somehow, trading down 3 spots at the top of the draft would be worth another mid to late 1st.
Just boggles my mind how many people are willing to accept a worse team next year and beyond because they think losing 3 or 4 games will magically turn us into the Oilers.

The Predators are more talented than the Flames? I'll give you Shea Weber, but Pekka Rinne can't stop a beach ball this season and his contract going forward looks terrible.

Again Duhatschek also addressed winning at garbage time as futile. He said it's been proven that winning without pressure rarely translates to winning under pressure. It doesn't build character or winning habits that translate into a team that wins in the clutch. This isn't just a bunch of 'Oiler fan wannabes' hoping their team becomes losers. It's fans looking past the end of what's been a terrible season for this organization and looking at how this team can avoid a repeat which is by bringing in the best talent possible. This is logic and past history dictating that there is nothing redeeming about bad teams winning games at this time of the year as it actually hurts the proposition of winning in the future.
I said it last night and Duhatschek repeated this morning that last nights game was unfortunate in that you want to get those bounces in games that count. Simply an unfortunate evening.

Really? Rinne has a respectable 2.35 GAA and .915 save percentage.
