Yep. Basically that is what this game boiled down to. Ericsson/Howard handing us 2 goals that we didn't really deserve and Kipper playing well.
I guess we still might have won the game in OT/shootout had Ericsson/Howard not given us the two goals.
Probably the most disappointing win I've watched. So conflicted when the playoffs aren't possible.

We have argued about Backlund before but I just don't see it.
He reminds of Stajan in that he can be a top 6 guy on a bad team and get 50 points if force fed minutes but he just doesn't seem to have the hockey sense or finishing ability to do it for a good team and to me hasn't shown to have that offensive ability at any level that he has played since being drafted.

Flames could always just draft a D man if Lindholm/ Monahan are off the board and we are left with B lvl forwards. There is usually some solid D 5-15 due to forwards being the priority I notice.

I don't think it's so much the winning that everyone wants to see as it is putting forward an honest work ethic every night. This will do wonders for the rest of the young guys confidence levels and development on this team. There is no doubt that Mackinnon or Barkov IMO, are better than a couple wins. I just don't want our losses to come because the boys packed'er in for the year because it reminds me of the Oilers eternal struggle as well as the pathetic human beings on the Colarado Avalanche.

Backs minutes are not force fed, he's earned them. Watch the games and he's clearly a top 6 forward; carrying the puck, winning battles, shooting, scoring. Take the hate glasses off once in awhile.

We didn't have crappy draft picks in the young guns era, we just drafted crappy players with good picks. Hopefully that changes this time.

I think what Moon is saying is that Backlund would not be a top 6 player on a good team. As of right now i agree with him. Hopefully in the next year or 2 he takes that next step to being a top 6 player on any team in the NHL.

Okay, so all of the Flames players are useless and couldn't play on any of the other teams out there, so please tell us who should be on the team, how they get here and which of the 18 year old whiz kids in this years draft, (plus the next 4 years and where the Flames are going to end up drafting) are going to be better (without doubt) than any of these current kids. I know you must have seen them all play and KNOW who will be superstars and also how to fix the team, so instead of just putting everyone else's positive thoughts down, tell us how to fix the team.

Who said the Flames players are useless and couldn't play on any other teams?
Who said any of the 18 year olds were whiz kids and were going to be better without a doubt?
Who said anything about KNOWING they would be superstars?
If you actually want to ask something or talk about things I have said feel free, but if you just want to write a snarky reply making up things I said and getting pissy because I don't agree with you then there isn't much point to it.

Another negative is that if Detroit won, they would have been more likely to surpass St. Louis and later on making our St. Louis pick higher if they were the 8th seed, but eff it. I'd rather have our prospects get accustomed to competing.
Plus, I think Monahan will be a flame either way. :3

Not at all.
Some may still remember calling me a big Flames homer only a few years ago when I believed in the players and management we had.
Only become a so-called pessimist when I dislike the way the team was going, the players they were bringing in and the management team.
If this team changes its direction or drafts Mackinnon you will see a big optimist/homer in me.
