In lowes mind, only oiler cups count as cups. All other cups were non-seasons. Probably because the oilers missed the playoffs and he chose not to watch any of those games. I suspect Lowe doesn't watch much hockey. It taints your opinion of players when u r in management.

It is comforting knowing that the flames also have that built in excuse from their strong teams and eventual cup winner in 89 (I hope green text is not necessary). I honestly still can not understand or wrap my head around that Mactavish comment.

Kind of an insulting quote from the Edmonton Journal to the Oiler fans, made even worse after Lowe's comment about how only the opinions of ticket-buying fans matter to them. Also, kind of laughable to see how Edmonton reporters are so afraid to criticise their leige-lord:
Quote:
Now that the passions might have settled a bit, why not try a look that’s more realistic? Some would say it’s cynical, but then again, some don’t like hearing the bitter truth.
And the bitter truth is simple: in relieving Steve Tambellini of his general managerial duties, the Edmonton Oilers (and their hockey operations poohbah Kevin Lowe) gave in to the perfectly uninformed demands of the fandom, as egged on by several hockey writers, some of them known as people who chased several players out of town (Jason Arnott anyone? Tom Poti? Eric Brewer?)
No, this is NOT supposed to criticize Lowe, or his choice for Tambellini’s replacement, Craig MacTavish. This is NOT to criticize Scott Howson’s hiring. And this is NOT to defend Tambellini’s record, either.

Laughable, but is that a tinge of pity I'm beginning to feel? No mention that 99% of Oil fans want Lowe gone yesterday.
Oh, and by the way, it's all Chris Pronger's fault.

I'm guessing they're more embarrassed after watching this ridiculous video. Lowe believes he must apologize to the fans on video for his comments. Has this ever happened before? You'll never see Torterella apologize for getting heated in an interview. Lowe is a weaker man than his team.

You'd think he'd make a token effort of tidying up his office first. And since you're trying to convince people that you're not living in the past...maybe think about taking down that Rangers picture.

Ha ha stupid Oilers.
I thought it was so great, that while they go with one hand out to the taxpayer for arena money, Lowe is backhanding them with the other.
What a Klown.

I don't read edmonton News Papers often, is it common place for them for them to publish the insane ramblings of a bitter old man? Message aside, even the tone and word choice seem that way.
And I don't get the running Brewer out of town thing. That was the best trade in the history of the Oilers. Its unfortunate for them that they screwed things up with the player down the road.
I can only hope we manage to trade Butler, Reinhart, and Neimsz for Shea Weber this off season. Then in 8 years we can lament running Chris Butler out of town.

I read them rarely too, but I happened upon this particular article and it appeared to me he is an aspiring young reporter rather than a bitter old man. If he was older he would know that Brewer was the key piece in the Pronger acquistion, whom the writer blames for the Oilers' downfall. And yet he goes out his way NOT to critcise the GM who made the trade he says was the beginning of the end.
Actually you could go line by line and deconstruct every single sentence in that article and conclude that the writer is ridiculous. But the fact that he got a job at the Edmonton Journal, goes to show how deeply butt-kissing is ingrained in Edmonton sports media. That's why Lowe was so taken aback when some random blogger began asking him tough questions.

I think he should be given a regular radio spot weekly to address the Oil faithful. You know, the ones that buy the tickets

Wow...if EVER there was a backpeddle to try and contain damage, that is the epitome of it.
Too late though kevin, you showed your true colors Monday... and your inability to understand evn the most basic of tenats in regards to your customer base is completely inexcusable if not downright unexplainable.
Good luck moving forward Oil faithful.....that whole thing is nothing but a circus.

Honestly, I wasn't offended by Lowe's comment about the two tiers of fans. It's a fact. However, a lot of fans took it differently and he's apologized, so good for him. Lowe is an emotional guy and went a bit far, which is what made him a really good player (not a star but a key cog in the Oilers' glory teams).
I also don't care if he has a Rangers photo in his office. It's a personal memento. Who cares?
I was far more concerned and offended by his comment about his rings indicating he knows what he's doing. I inferred from that: "I have six cup rings and you don't so **** off because you don't know what you're talking about."

After the press conference I left with a higher opinion of MacTavish and an even lower opinion of Lowe. This video didn't help any.
I guess being the owner's best friend will get you far more latitude than you deserve.
Here's hoping in 2-3 years if we STILL aren't making the playoffs, Katz finally figures it out, and Jim Nill is not yet a GM and willing to listen.
And to think our two teams used to battle it out for league supremecy every year.
