How would you guys feel if the Flames pick 5th, and (with the consensus top-4 gone) take Nichushkin instead of Monahan or Lindholm?

I would be leery. We need a centre a lot more than we need a winger with a 2 year KHL contract.

Not going to cry if they Grab Nichushkin. But Barkov or Lindholm will be the targets me thinks.

Haven't seen Barkov as much as Monahan but I take the latter over the former at 4.

my guess is that the Flames' order of preference would be:
Barkov
Lindholm
Monahan
on a separate note: I hope we take Morrissey with the Stl pic

In order of Preference I would like to see in Flames gear this draft.
1. Barkov
2. Nichushkin
3. Mackinnon
4. Linholm
5. Ristolainen
6. Monahan
7. Zykov
8. Hartman
9. Lehkonen
10. Rychel
11. Mueller
And the later round long shot Bogdan Yakimov.

Is that with you assuming we pick at best 3rd and Jones and Drouin are gone already?

Yes and No. Given the placements of Ristolainen and Mueller in the draft I feel that the Flames would be better served passing on Jones and getting a center. Nichushkin over Drouin solely because I believe he is the better talent of the two wingers. Sure it's debatable but it's just my order of preference.

Based on what I've read/seen so far I guess my list would be:
1. MacKinnon
2. Jones
3. Barkov
4. Drouin
T5/6. Lindholm-Monahan (haven't seen enough to have a strong preference)
7. Nurse
8. Nichuskin

Draft Pick
|
Was listening to the latest draft Centre podcast and Button mentioned that due to their late birthdays, you'd get an extra season from Barkov and McKinnon before they hit free agency (June 30th was the cut off date he mentioned). An interesting wrinkle if true.

He also said that he could see the Flames preferring someone with size over Drouin since they already have a bunch of smaller wingers. It wasn't presented as inside knowledge or anything, more of an example of a team looking at what they have in the system and making picks to fill holes, but with Button you never know what he knows with the Flames.

I'm not sure if the rules have changed. But in the last CBA free agentcy started at either 7 years of experiance or 27 years old. For Barkov and McKinnon it is vary likely the 7 years would come first anyways.

Crash and Bang Winger
|
1.Mackinnon
2.Monahan
3.Barkov
Monahan had 78pts in 58 games this year. He also had a 10 game suspension for a hit. On top of that he was on by far the worst team in the OHL. He created all his own offence at least 80% of the time. He could have had unreal numbers if he had anyone half decent to play with. Monahan is exactly who the Flames should build around.

This season can't end soon enough.
I just want to see where we finish, and what happens with the lottery so we can know exactly where we are drafting with our pick.
I want MacKinnon in the Flames fold really badly, but if end up passing a bunch of the craptatic teams, Monohan or Lindholm sound like decent consolation prizes I guess.

One of Barkov, Lindholm or Monahan will be a Flame. Book it.
MacKinnon is on the top of my list though.

Lindholm is a really good play but I heard his shot is terrible.

Yeah, anyone picked in the top 10 should hit UFA status based on years in the NHL before they get there by age.

I want a C with the first pick. My choices would be:
MacKinnon
Barkov
Monahan
Lindholm
But I'll trust the scouting staff to make the right choice
With the second pick, I would like a D. I doubt Risto will be available but Morrissey would be good
With the 3rd pick I would like a large, scoring RW
