4runners are all kinds of awesome. I have an 03. Can handle everything I throw at it.

I sold my newer Pathfinder with less mileage in favour of the 4runner. No regrets.

The problem with the CVT isn't just that it feels like crap to drive, it's also UNBELIEVABLY loud. I'm conditioned to a pretty quiet ride, so that's part of it, but I drove a Nissan Rogue recently and was shocked at how noisy those things are.

It's turned into a value/de-optioned Infiniti JX, rather then something that stands on its own, as many Nissans are now.

Speaking of butchering a model, how about the RAV4? I used to think they looked good, now not so much.

Yeah, I think a lot of people don't like the new Rav4. It'll always be a chick car to me, but I don't think the newest model looks that bad...slight aesthetic improvement over the old one.

The real problem is they don't offer it with the V6 anymore, which was the vehicle's only saving grace. The 2013's 0-60 is 8.4 seconds versus 6.3 on the outgoing V6 model.

I love my Rav 4! Except I don't have the V6 So I can't really tow anything with it. Great on gas though! I have the old body style which imo looks better.

The one thing about the new Rav that I like is that the back door opens from bottom to top as opposed to the side door that it has on older models. Plus they got rid of the ugly spare tire on the back.

This. I have an 04 4Runner and I love it. I could definitely see myself upgrading to a new 4Runner eventually.

Since the '10 model you could get a sport package which didn't have a spare tire on the back.

Man... these new cars are hideous... I agree about the tackiness of the rear tire.. but the new Rav4's back looks awful and even worse than it did before. I much preferred the previous model.

The Pathfinder looked awesome in 2003... and then it became a box... and now it's essentially a crossover... They were also made to be reliable back then... my mom still has a 2003 with 200k+ km on it. Only bad thing is the gas mileage.. it is ridiculously bad... drive a full day on 4X4 on a big snow day and the tank is almost empty by the end of it....

Gas mileage is big these days. The new pathfinders get 20/26 MPG in front wheel drive and 19/25 in 4 wheel drive.

The 2003 gets 15/18 in front wheel and the 4wd gets 14/18 MPG.

Pretty massive difference and a primary reason for the changes towards the car based design.

Quite frankly, I'm all for this. The last thing we need is more suburbanites driving trucks. They've re-designed their most pupular SUVs to make them more fuel efficient and safer (for others). People who still need off road vehicles and trucks can buy other models.

I really like the looks of the new Dodge Caravans. Real sharp looking.

You guys do realize that they are marketing these vehicles to families who need space, don't want a minivan, want something a little higher off the ground and still handles, to the extent possible, like a car.

The 4Runner is big and clunky and drives like a truck, the Rav4 handles more like a car. We already own a truck (which we are looking to sell) because it's a pain in the ass to take downtown and park every day and something like a crossover works more for our lifestyle right.
