I don't know...Joel Otto was my favorite Flame back in the day and he was an undrafted free agent who didn't turn pro until, what? 24 years old? And wasn't there a lot more draft rounds back then?
Flames aren't going to hit home runs with every pick, trade and signing but I would give the guy a year or two before evaluating too closely.

Does this mean that he can't graduate? I know his main goal is to play in the NHL, but after going to college for 4 years, isn't this kind of a waste? Unless he can make them up and still graduate. Anybody know of the rules of college players after signing a NHL contract?

You are over reading into this... he can still finish his college degree anytime he wants, he just can't play in any NCAA games again (which was over this season anyways). Assuming he didn't already make arrangements to take the test at a later date, his signing bonus will cover the cost of re taking the course if he needs to.

He looked good in the NCAA Frozen Four tournament. A little slow, but big, works hard and has a wicked shot. Hopefully he can keep up.
Just watched the St. Cloud/Quinnipiac game again & I have to disagree.
Thought he was a non-factor in the game versus Quinnipiac. I would say he was mostly at fault for the first goal against. Didn't have the speed or quick enough reactions to stop the Quinnipiac player from ramming the puck in at the near post. (Watch the video here, :45 in: http://www.ncaa.com/news/icehockey-m...-cloud-state-f) Didn't notice him on the forecheck at all and the only opportunity I noticed him get in the offensive zone he didn't get a clean shot off. St. Cloud in general didn't have a very good game.
Not to be a downer, but I don't have high expectations if he ends up playing as a Flame this season. Prove me wrong, Ben.

Yeah, that was a bad game for the whole team, they never recovered after that 1st goal. To me their goalie didn't make the big saves early and the team just sank. I saw the Miami and Notre Dame games and Ben looked good. We will see what he can do at the NHL level. Probably need a year in the AHL first.

What pisses me off is how do consistent contenders like Pittsburgh and Boston have such deep prospect pools compared to the Flames. Such piss poor drafting and development and in some cases luck
Edit: and poor asset management
the Pens sucked ass for years and then won the Crosby lottery
Iginla return was fine, guy was going to walk for nothing...he is also 35 making 7 million dollars and had 9 goals. Its not 04 and Iginla is no longer a top player, get over it. Besides, would you rather watch Iginla float around these last few games or see actual effort from these young guys
First post here...I'm from Ben's hometown and everyone is really excited here that Ben is getting this opportunity! I really feel that you Flames fans will like this guy!!

Not sure who the second paragraph is directed at - I have no problem with the Iginla trade just lamenting the fact that Pittsburgh has been a legitimate contender for 6 seasons and still has a decent cupboard of prospects (even if mostly Ds)

We're looking forward to seeing him. Just needs to work hard and the fans will love him.
