He'll probably have less day-to-day oversight of the hockey operations and more oversight of the big pictures operations, including building the new arena, etc.
Wouldn't be surprised if ownership values his business acumen and placement in the community but has finally seen through the fallacy of "winning and rebuilding at the same time" argument.
If its happening, he'll be off Feasters back - or whomever replaces Feaster. More distance.
There's been a lot to be thankful for through King's term and he's still a very valuable guy. As long as he sticks to the business side.
My two cents.

The hate on for Ken King is ridiculous. He was a big part of bringing the organization back to respectability. Sure, things haven't gone well in recent years. That's pro sports, it happens. Doesn't mean the guy didn't do a good job, at least for a while. Even if he's moving on I've always liked what he brought to the organization in terms of being the face of the business side of things.
And the hate is driven mostly by people who wouldn't be caught dead calling themselves Flames fans during the Ron Bremner years.

Ken King has very little to do with how the team is run. I think that he does his job well. He is the public face of the owners, but I suspect he has nothing to do with the team on the ice.
I think he has been exactly what he should be. He goes out, talks to fans, from personal experience and many other accounts, he always makes time to speak with anybody who wants to speak with him.
If you hire a guy like Burke, a) he is going to stick his hands into the hockey side, whether that's good or bad, I am on the fence about and b) he is a grumpy old man, I highly doubt you would see him walking the concourse in let's say Columbus (where I met, chatted for ten minutes and had my picture taken with Ken King) and greeting and chatting with fans.
Cowperson very accurate. KK a master at perception in the public. That is his value. At the NHL level he has been a liability to the organization. Edwards must now know that.

I guess I am one of the few not privy to the inner workings of the Calgary Flames. I always thought King ran business side of things (which from all accounts have been stellar) and the GM looked after player moves; which for the last 5 years havent met expectations but I like Feaster's initial moves.
No matter how much money Ken King can make for the team, it doesnt change personel moves and draft picks that havent worked out which is what translates to on-ice performance.
I can see the Flames restructuring where King is the President of Flames Sports Ltd (Flames, Stampeders, Hitmen, Flames Central etc).
I dont fault Ken King at all for the poor on ice performance unless he had more influence on player moves than I think he did.

I feel no need to dump on King - he's done a lot for the business side of the Flames organization - but I'm happy if the hockey side of the business gets more focused management.
Ken King has done more to rejuvenate the image of the Flames in the community than he gets a lot of credit for. I met the guy when once when I went to a STH meeting a few years back and I have to say he's a great people person & his business knowledge is excellent.
He genuinely wanted to bring the Cup to Calgary and I think everything he has done has been with that end goal in mind.
His best move was to bring Darryl Sutter in as coach. Worst move was allowing Darryl to relinquish coaching duties & stay on as only GM. Darryl lost the plot with most of the moves late in his tenure, but no one knows how much culpability King had in those disastrous deals.

It will interesting to see who replaces King if the rumor is true. There seems to be a lot of CP support for a real hockey guy like JD or Burke, yet lots of complaints about the president allegedly meddling in hockey operations. Do people expect a hockey guy president to be more involved in hockey operations?
The more I think of it Feaster would be a great president - he's got the people/PR skills and sees himself as much or more a people manager than a hockey guy. I could see him letting go control of hockey decisions fairly easily.
Edit: It would also be graceful way to acknowledge that while Feaster has done some good (considering organization not just player moves) he's not the right GM for the next phase.

Can we include everyone associated with the Flames broadcasts and coverage excpet Peter Maher in the rebuild? Just saying, if we're serious about moving forward...
