Tanguay injured 4-6 weeks

Alex Tanguay is done of for the year after suffering a Grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee in 3-2 overtime victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. Head coach Bob Hartley reiterated Saturday morning that “it doesn’t look good.”

The injury is expected to take four-to-six weeks to heal, and by then the Flames will be well into golf season (provided it ever stops snowing.)

Going to be hard to trade him now.

Well I hope he heals up quick, don't like seeing any player get hurt but the silver lining is that we'll get to see some young guys play in his place.

Hopefully he recovers fully so his quality of life after hockey is not affected. Beyond that, it's probably best for everyone involved that he's off the roster for the rest of the season. He can do some soul-searching after a disappointing season and determine whether he wants to commit staying here. And the Flames can continue the auditions.

Said before, said again, he's exactly what amnesty buyouts were meant for. With the only player he was happy playing with and put up consistent numbers with the last parts of 6 seasons now off the roster, he is probably untradeable imo (outside of to the them Iginla lands on in the summer), another 3 years here makes zero sense on this team as it transitions.

Still has the skill and have met him once, a nice enough guy, and tough that it has to be on a knee injury...hopefully he fully recovers...but time to go.

Re-injury concerns could hurt a bit, but I doubt this changed much.

I'm shocked that all he got was a sprain. That looked far worse and his screaming seemed like it was going to be at least one tear if not two.

Very nice guy. He always stays positive. May be one of the reasons Hartley chose to coach here. But if this team plays well enough without him in the lineup (obviously), Tanguay's value may hit the all time low. It is sad but a buyout is a practical option for the Flames.

3.5 mill 27 pts in 40 games. "Disappointing season and may be a buyout candidate" ? I can't figure out why everyone seems to think this guy isn't an NHL player anymore. He is one dimensional but he can still play hockey.

I was more put off by the first comment about his injury being about how it hurts the ability to trade him.

^^Rogers mentioned on the pregame today about how his age and his contract combined with a knee injury can make him very difficult to trade now. He said that "He had a disappointing season and although he can still dominate, many nights he was invisible" and for this reason, the Flames might want to unload him. With a 2nd grade MCL injury at his age, this scenario is much more unlikely as many teams will likely not gamble as this could lead to a reoccurring injury. Again, not my words...

The guy is hurt, the first thought shouldn't be trade value. Show some damn compassion.

The guy was on pacefor a 60 pluspoint season. For $3.5 million, id say his output was as expected.

There is no way we trade our most talented offensive player who remains unless we are bringing in some high end talent to replace him. I dont care if he is one dimensional. He is a top six forward who puts up 60 + points while here, and his contract is affordable. This is a guy you keep.

As far as him disappearing for stretches, that is absolutely true and a flaw with this team. It is also a criticism that he and Glencross take far too much flak for, and that guys like Hudler and Cammalerri dont get enough flak for the same slumps. And lets be clear about this, all it takes is a 25 game stretch of good play to turn around public sentiment around here, as seen by Mr Stajan.

I like Tanguay, I just don't see room for him on LW going ahead. I think we have Cammallari and Glencross ahead of him while Baertschi should be given a regular spot in a top 9 role.
