According to Sports Club Stats the Heat are now mathematically eliminated from any chance of the playoffs.

Just a weird, weird season overall. They went from essentially the best team in North America in October and November to a middle-of-the-pack team with the lowest scoring in the league.

It just seemed as soon as the lockout ended it put a dagger in this team and they fell apart.

Carter Rowney will make his pro debut tonight for the Heat. It's also possible that Hardowa plays tonight as well.

EDIT - Blair Jones is also expected to be in the lineup tonight after being reassigned today. I guess that means Hudler's ready to come back.

Call-ups and injuries just ravaged the Heat post-lockout.

The Heat beat the Marlies 3-0. Krys Kolanos, Mike Testwuide and Tyler Ruegsegger scoring for the Heat, Danny Taylor with the Shutout.

Not to slight the Heat's win, but I didn't expect this to be the final score at all. The Marlies are a good team. Sounded like they didn't do much at all tonight.

Holy crap! What a night by everyone, especially the new guys! I'm floored by how well they did.

Cundari is for real everyone. He's legit. Here's the quote I got on Cundari from Ward tonight:

Quote:
“He’s an old school guy for a young school kid. He plays like an old guy from the ‘70s and ‘80s. There’s dirt underneath his finger nails and the other hand he’s got a glove on and it’s real nice. And in the next two shifts he’s just a dog again. He’s chewing the other guy’s rear end off in between shifts. He’s just a throwback – a real good throwback.”
Yeah, Ward said that. He's fast, he's mean, he's a prick, he levelled three guys tonight with big hits, he's got a nose for the offense. He's the real deal. He's going to be a legitimately good player for the Flames I think.

Kulak was a monster. Calm, cool, collected, extremely smart, makes the smart play almost all the time. After watching him in his first two pro games, I think he's flying up our defensive prospects list.

I was also very impressed with Carter Rowney. He doesn't have the best conditioning, but he made a few real good plays. Smart plays. I liked his game.

And Rugsegger, in typical Ruegsegger fashion was an absolute beast... again. If I were to choose the MVP of the Heat for this season, the finalists would be Ruegsegger, Taylor and Walter.

Oh, and did I mention? Cundari's the real deal.

That's so great to hear. We sure need that hard nosed attitude.

I'm also really excited by Kulak. Was it his size that stopped him from being picked earlier in the draft?

Thanks for the updates. I always look forward to hearing how the young guys look.

Any chance Cundari gets a call-up next week or will they keep him down for the OKC games next weekend? Even if he finishes off the Heat schedule, he could still come up for three NHL games. Any kind of look at him would be awesome, even if his minutes are sheltered.

Good news on Kulak as well!

Good attendance of 6500 too, mostly Leaf's fans I guess but still good. Oh yeah Aliu's been recalled.

Expect him to be called up before Monday's game against the Wild. I'd put money on it.

Alot of Leaf fans, but it was a combination of a few things I think. $2 beer, $1 hot dogs, lots of Leafs fans, Darryl Sittler was in the house and it was Fan Appreciation night where they handed out over 1000 prizes throughout the night.

on most nights 1000 prizes would give everyone at least one

Good to hear the positivity about Cundari. Bring on the grit!

Also nice to hear Kulak looks good too. Maybe we have another Brodie type on the way.

PMM, loving your work as always.

Just dug this up on Kulak from his draft year. THW were very high on him & compared him to Duncan Keith or 'Nick Lidstrom-lite'. One of their sleeper picks. Plus he's an Alberta boy! Nice one Feaster & Weisbrod.

http://thehockeywriters.com/brett-ku...spect-profile/

What kind of upside do you see from him? Shame we seem to be stacked with similar left-sided D men or he might get a shot at the big team next year. Gio, Brodie, Butler & Cundari all ahead of him on the depth chart...

I don't think he'd get a shot with the big club next season. While he's looked excellent in his first two pro games, it remains to be seen if he can handle a full 76 game AHL season with travel like he's never seen before.

Putting him back with the Giants is the best thing for him. He can go and dominate the Dub for a bit and then join the Heat when their season is over.

Doesn't Kulak have to go back to Vancouver next season (unless he makes the Flames)? He won't turn 20 until January.

Speaking of Junior d-men who were drafted last year, I see that the Remparts were eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs last night. I wonder if they'll bring in Culkin for the last week of the AHL season? Unlike Kulak, he can go to the AHL next year because his birthday is on Christmas (they're less than 2 weeks apart in age, but it makes all the difference).

You are right about Kulak and Culkin.

He's definitely in that 6'1" range. Right now he's about the same height as Brodie, but lighter.

According to Turner Elson's twitter he is joining the Heat today. Hopefully he'll get a few games before the season is done.
