I believe the sports games are developed in EA Vancouver.

Yep, everything but Madden and golf I believe is made in Burnaby. Including the new UFC game. I think the last NHL title EA Montreal worked on was the last PC version.

Yeah, all the Fluff stuff can go away and they can actually focus on keeping rosters and ratings up to date with more frequent updates. Would also love to see some DLC to the effect of realistic goalie masks for the tenders. and maybe a customizing area for masks. But I guess that is fluff. I like the nhl'12 trade engine. the 13 version is terrible.

They can't due to copyright issues with mask painters.

Yeah, EA Can't afford to pay all the painters royalties to use their artwork. What I would like is to have them update the masks, or have the ability to paint your own with a editor like Forza has.

I will give them my money if they speed up simulating games in Be a GM mode. It drives me crazy to have to waste so much time waiting. I can't even try to develop prospects because that would take weeks.

They really need to add in more logo's for when you go about making your own team. Also, I missed those days where you were able to upload your own face and put it on your player. I also would like to see more of the design elements going into creating teh look of the goalie mask.

DLC may actually be the way they can address the mask issues. Cut a profit deal with the mask artists so they make a portion of each mask sold via dlc.
I know it's a ridiculous idea, but some of us may just pay 50-99 cents for the ability to have Kipper's actual mask or whatever in the game.

It will be NHL 13 with a new label. Also the price will probably increase.

Sounds like not buying NHL13 is one of my best decisions ever.

I MAY buy it used. But likely not. I've already skipped out on NHL 12 and 13.
Either way, EA will not see another cent of my money after the SimCity debacle.

I want all the things I've been asking for since NHL'07 to be fixed. But I know absolutely none of them will be and it will be the same rehashed game from the past couple seasons. I don't see any major improvements, and why would EA even bother? They have a monopoly on hockey games.

EA seems to think that an NHL skater can't do a forward/backward skating transition without taking 3 seconds and that most players turning circles are half the width of the ice rink.
The new skating engine is complete trash. The physics engine is garbage too, but it is at least so broken that it has become hilarious to see the hits that EA thinks obey the laws of physics.
Oh yeah, and online Team Play is completely broken. Why do I want to start out as a 54 overall? You literally can't do anything because you're so crappy.
|
I disagree with you 100 %. The skating in NHL 13 is by far the best skating engine thats ever been implemented into a hockey game. Sometimes the physics can go a little wonky, but overall it isn't terrible. Keep in mind this isn't supposed to be an exact simulation. It's supposed to be a fun video game.

Good AI would be a nice start.
Maybe instead of making it more difficult to do the basic things like pass, shoot, score, etc when you increase the difficulty, they should have the AI actually play smarter.

Insanity.
New puck physics, new skating system, new AI, new trading AI...they make significant iterative changes every season.
You know why EA has a monopoly on hockey games? Because no one else could compete.
The 2K series was GREAT for a few years, but by the time last few 2K hockey games came out, they were completely rubbish.
NHL 13 was fantastic.
They definitely need to work on their load times on the PS3 (my god, they're so much better on 360) - but at this stage, a lot of it has to due with how memory is allocated on the PS3 itself, which is something EA can't control.

My theory: If you enjoy the games, you'll love it. If you can't stand the way it is now, you'll continue to hate it. People who hate it will buy the game for some damn reason, and be angry for an entire year. I for one adore the games and can't wait for the new one.
NHL 13 sold incredibly well, so those expecting sweeping changes likely won't be pleased. I also don't expect too much more just because as we reach the end of the console cycles the tech limits are being hit pretty hard. There's only so much you can do on machines that are 7 years old. I imagine they'll tout AI changes, but I don't believe they have the capability to change a whole lot. Perhaps I'm wrong.
My wish list:
- Hire somebody to do the menus. The next time you get into a GM game, actually count how many button presses and time how long it takes to start a game. Pay close attention to the number of actions you do that are unnecessary (I promise it'll turn your mind inside out).
- Players are better at staying onside than they used to, but they don't try that hard (simple dekes take you offside all the time).
- Find a stat on how many times the glass breaks on a team in any given year. Emulate that.
- Down by 1 or 2 with about 2 minutes left, the CPU should take a timeout and ice their top line (add an animation to show it). Also, when you call a timeout, it should ice your top line if you have line changes set to auto.
- Keep away button was awesome in 12, but they changed it in 13 so now the player only holds it on one side, and it doesn't matter if that side happens to be the side the attack is coming from.
- Sliders on GM Online. Right now it's either quite easy or quite hard and very few ways to tweak.
