I like Nichushkin, but I would 100% pick Jones, Mackinnon, Druin, Barkov, Lindholm and possibly Monahan over him. The only way I pick Nichushkin is if we've already picked one of the other top 5 guys & he's still on the board after #10. I would push hard to improve the St Louis pick & get him.
Mackinnon & Nichushkin would be like our Crosby-lite & Malkin-lite, in terms of forwards to build around. We pull something like that off and it's like we've just got 2 years worth of lottery picks but in 1 draft.

Great video, I still want Nate, but he would seem like a nice consolation prize.

The thing that impresses me the most is that he is playing against men, professionals. I have a hard time evaluating these other kids like Mackinnon etc. and how their play would convert against men because they play in junior leagues.

I feel that if Feaster drafts Jones its a good job. Babchuck and Butler shift somewhere.
If Feaster drafts Mackinnion we trade away Tangauy or Cammy
If Feaster drafts Droiun we trade Tangauy or Cammy
Either way it looks like if we do draft a forward in the top 3 then Tangauy or Cammy will be moved. They don't look like they can play on the third line with passion and they are taking up space for the pick

Babchuk gone no matter what - he's a UFA. Well, I guess that's about as logical as assuming Sarich would have been gone last summer.

Boy that 2nd round pick would have looked good in the range of 31-33 as the team could have afforded to take a high risk/high reward player with the Penguins pick.

If he has a solid season next year there is no doubt he will be a very attractive rental player given his playoff history with the Habs.
If the Flames mangage to get the 1st overall pick they have a lot of options as they have the possibility of prying a 2nd round pick from the Avs or Panthers for the opportunity to guarantee Jones as I expect both teams will highly covet him over Drouin and MacKinnon. Eric Duhatschek was talking about that this morning.

I'm not sure the Avs and/or the Panthers would do it but I'd love to win the lottery and then trade our #1 to the Avs for their #2 along with their second rounder. Then trade our #2 to the Panthers for their #3 and second rounder.
Avs pick Jones, Panthers pick Mackinnen, then we pick Drouin.
We also get the 32nd and 33rd pick.
5 picks in the first 33 selections!!!

The Flames would be stupid not to doe this. At the end of the day the Flames are in a better position with either of the so called top 3 prospects. They don't need 1 immediate need, they need them all. So as long as one falls to them they should be happy.
Best case scenario is the following. Flames are 1st overall, trade down to #2 and get a 2nd round asset. Flames then trade down to 3rd overall and get another 2nd round asset. So essentially a top 3 prospect plus 2 high 2nd round picks.

Jones is the most likely of the three to be a superstar, cornerstone player in the NHL. He's the lesser gamble.
MacKinnon and Drouin might be superstars as well or better than Jones in the end, but they seem less of a sure thing than Jones looks like.
My two cents. Everyone has got an opinion and everyone is entitled to one.
Should be an interesting summer.

If we end up with the first overall pick we should not trade down. Pick Jones and set up our first defensive pairing for the next 10 years. I think Brodie and Jones would compliment each other perfectly.

These are the too clever by half type moves that the flames need to avoid.
The clever move is to just pick Jones, the best player.

Depends on who our scouting staff thinks the best player is.
If we feel that Mackinnon is the best player, and can grab an extra asset then you should make that move.

I don't disagree that Jones looks special but for the Flames I believe he represents too much of a gamble given his birth certificate. Defensemen take longer to hit their stride and by the time Jones truly hits his peak he will be close to UFA to which he will promply leave for a US team. I believe for the Flames they would be better off even taking Barkov over Jones if you want to look long term. The reason the Avs covet him (grew up in Denver) is the same reason the Flames shouldn't. You can be sure he and his family would be disappointed if the Flames are the team announcing his name and I want a player that is truly happy to be here. There is too much riding on this pick to take a guy that may be the right player for the Flames but the Flames are the wrong team for that player.

That's nice in theory but if either of the other teams preceive the value of the big three as relatively equivalent they have no incentive to trade and it presumes that the Flames will have the first pick (for which there is a maximum 25% chance which assumes that the Flames finish dead last in the league... hell if we finish third we still only have a 57% chance of drafting 3rd or better).

Anyone hear Feaster this morning on the Fan?
- Doing all their due dilligence on the top four-five consensus picks. Will be analyzing characters of each player, etc.
- Bottom picks are critical as well, given there could be some hidden gems as well.
- Could not confirm - nor deny - they were pursuing Drew Leblanc and Antoine Langierre (due to confidentiality reasons). Said they were great prospects, spoke very highly of them.
I'm sure there's more, I just caught the last half.

thanks! the interview is now on their website
edit. interesting - if Gaudreau signed, he'd be playing with the Flames now to get a taste like Max, Sven etc How great would it have been to see Johnny here next week and playing the final 6 or 7 games
