Putting up really good points in his second year in the OHL.
51 points in 68 games, +22. 15 G, 36A.
Would be nice if we had a 2nd rounder, or maybe get him with our early 3rd round pick?

He's too small for his game to effectively translate in the NHL.
This team needs to get bigger.

If we have that pick, wouldn't be surprised.

Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I would have guessed a much bigger number for 2003. Put into perspective what is reasonable to expect from any draft

There is typically a bust and/or a couple of underachievers in the top 5 of any draft. A lot of people don't think that will be the case this year, but I wouldn't discount it either.

Too small.
For another team, maybe. Calgary needs to draft big bodied guys with talent that are tough to play against.

While it's looking more and more likely that the Blues pick will be in the low 20's - let's say 21st overall and Pitts - 28th Overall (Just guessing quickly).
I'd make the following offer:
Cammalleri (2M Cap/Salary Retained) + Pitts 1st 2013
for
Columbus 1st 2013 (~12th Overall) + Columbus 2nd 2014.
I'd then trade Stajan + Cgy 6th 2013 for Ana 2nd 2013.

Not sure if this was posted yesterday, TSN has released their April rankings. Really awesome to see MacKinnon has dropped to #3. PLEASE be a Calgary Flame, Nathan MacKinnon!

Nathan MacKinnon C (6'0, 182) 1st
Rasmus Ristolainen D (6'3, 203) 20th
Valentin Zykov RW (6'0, 210) 29th
|
Yup... I like the looks of those picks. I really want to get Zykov.

I would honestly be happy with any of the top 4 in this draft, but selfishly I want MacKinnon if we have a chance to draft him.

Bob Mackenzie's poll of scouts has Andre Burakowski at 7 in Sept; 14th in January
ISS has him at 17 in their March ranking
Button has him at 39, up from 46th in March
Some variability in rating this player
quoting Button:
Quote:
Andre is explosive and powerful. His skating is excellent and he has the ability to challenge defenders and put them on their heels. He is the type of player who makes defencemen nervous because he is not only fast but determined as well. He will not back down from the competitive areas and is very difficult to deter. Good puck skills, can make plays at high speed and is capable of beating you with a drive to the net or with a pass, given the opportunity. His playing time in Malmo has been uneven and his performance has reflected that.

I have had that hunch too. I'm beginning to hope so actually. Massive frame, excellent playmaking skills, excellent skater. Almost a total package.

If we take the russian, maybe we can trade for Kuznetsov too since their teamates.

God, no Russians please. So many great players in this round, there's no need to gamble. Why take the 1 guy who has the biggest red flag in the entire round?

It would almost be amusing to see the reaction if we had an "all red" 1st round.

Though I don't believe any of the top 4 are a bad pick, the Flames will also need to make sure they draft at least 2-3 NCAA kids to meet the yearly quota so I'd expect some maneuvering with the later first rounders.

Interesting prospect in the WHL: Myles Bell
Listed as a D-man, but converted to the wing this year and notched 93 points (38 goals) in 69 games. Another Byfuglien in the making? Projected to go in the 3rd round.
Myles Bell
Shoots: Right
Ht/Wt: 6' 0"/202 lbs
Position: D/LW
Team: Kelowna (WHL)

Stay away the guy is a prick. Alcohol problems and killed his girlfriend well driving under the influence.
