I'll be honest, with 2 little kids golf and nightlife are just things I hear about other people doing. So no specific suggestions, though I am told there is lots of good places in that area where you'll be staying.
For restaurants, I enjoy the Grand Lux in the fashion square mall. It's not a little place, actually a fairly big spot, but good food, and close to where you are staying. There is also a PF Changs down there for good Asian fusion.
My suggestion for Mexican is out in Mesa if you are willing to drive for 15 minutes...Tia Rosa's. Nice patio areas, and great margaritas and Mexican food. We regularly go there from Scottsdale.

Wait, since when has PF Chang's been anything but Panda Express: Sit Down And Eat Version?
Did they stop serving terrible food when I wasn't looking?

In terms of golf, I think its about a half hour drive, but we went to Gold Mountain and it was a great time. Halfway up a mountain, as the name suggests. Pretty much leave the driver at home, challenging course, seeing as its, you know, halfway up a mountain. But extremely picturesque, it was awesome. The guy ahead of us even had to slam on the breaks at one point because a large snake was crossing the cart path.
One other reason I mention it is because its owned by a Calgarian, which means caesars in the clubhouse. To date, best one I've ever had, which surprises me considering it was in a country where 99% of bars wouldn't even know what a caesar is, let alone selling them. Even had NHL playoffs on the TV in the clubhouse, which impressed me, especially considering it a) it wasn't a Yotes game, and b) NBA playoffs were on at the same time. Recommend.

^ Ocean Club is usually good.
For a great restaurant at really decent prices, check out White Chocolate Grill

Thanks again everyone. I had to laugh at PsYcNeT comment. We went to the PF Chang's last time we were there as my buddy made resos. He just made the exact same comment a week ago, which prompted me to ask here.
I dunno I didn't mind Changs, not the best, but not too bad. I guess I sympathize with other parents who just want somewhere to go with kids that you are comfortable and is decent eats. That suddenly becomes your new haunts.
I will be checking out a few of these places and reporting back though.

nightlife depends on your age, of course.
if you're younger, check out around ASU - I think it's called Mill St or something like that. Lots of restaurants, bars, and college co-eds.

if it isn't too far, check out Quintero Golf Course - absolutely outstanding but a long drive depending on where you're starting from

Here's another great place to eat. If you like New York style pizza, good chance it'll be the best pizza you've ever had:

Ya, I hit that up last time in November. Went to an ASU/Arizona Uni game. Huge rivals and awesome game. Only downer was no beer sales!
Anyway, we went to Mill St, and she was crazy, and fun. Gotta say if I was early 20's I would have thought it was heaven on earth.
Instead we went back to the W for some old foggie lounging and cougar gazing by the pool.

Yeah, it's funny but grimaldis disappointed me. Maybe just a bad day considering how many people like it. I do enjoy bianco, and they have a sandwich place (Pane Bianco) in north Phoenix that is really good too.
