Cmon CP the guys just being respectful and saying nice things about his new employer. No need to be ultra sensitive. Its Iginla FFS, he went on for years about how much he loved the city and how well run the Flames were. Did you expect him to walk down a hallway, see his picture up a week after he got there and begin to wax poetically about Calgary...?
Still Iggy, still classy, always positive. No hidden shots at Calgary IMO..

I don't think it says anything about the 'current thinking' of the organization. While I'm not a big fan of the way the Flames are being run, thinking will not change a building. That's just hyperbole.
Iggy is being the classy guy with positive things to say about the people around him and the organization he's a part of that he always has been. That's a trait that endeered him to many here. Nothing has changed but the jersey and the building.

Exactly. People are interpreting way too much from simple words. He's probably just trying to comment on the Penguins' winning tradition, that's all. There's no slight to Calgary. Some of you are getting way too butthurt over nothing.

Pens have won 3 cups, won their conference an additional time and have won multiple series since then.
Calgary has made it past the first round once since 1989.
He has a point.

exactly
Iginla is just very politically correct. No hidden shots or anything, just wants to say good things about his new team.

How do you know what he's like in the dressing room, at practice, on team events, etc.? All we see is what happens during the games. The vast majority of us have no idea what he's like behind the scenes. Maybe he does lecture his teammates. Maybe he screams at them? Maybe he's calm and is more of a nurturer. You don't know any of this. I don't either. I like how he doesn't air the team's dirty laundry to the media. I like how he's always smiling during interviews. I think they do a good job of keeping business that happens behind closed doors, behind the closed doors. JBo had the same knock, that he wasn't a vocal guy, yet none of us are around him to know if he is quiet or loud. Giving interviews to the media doesn't make you a good or bad captain.
Look at Bill Belichick with the Patriots. He says basically nothing during his interviews, but whenever you see behind the scenes shots of him in practice or in games, he's as intense and knowledgeable as anyone. Maybe that's how Iggy was. I don't know, because there weren't cameras during his speeches. Many great players have talked about his great leadership skills. I think I'd take those words on his capabilities rather than those who just watch him on TV.

If you aren't a Mark Messier, you suck at being a captain.

Enough of Iginla's former team mates have publicly said he's a quiet leader, a lead by example guy, doesn't say much in the room. I think we've heard it enough from players who have played with him to make reasonable assumptions on his leadership style. From all reports, he's a quiet leader, not that there's anything wrong with that, other than if you are a lead by example guy, your effectiveness at leadership will drop as your ability to lead by example on the ice does.

I'm hoping the Flyers sneak into 8th and knock them out.

Ugh. If you're a season ticket holder that would be okay. If not...well, I wouldn't want to go the 2nd home game of the season in the new building.
I wonder how much a factor the arena plays into a UFA's decision to sign with a particular team? I'm guessing it would be a consideration after money, city and the team.

Oddly, Mark Messier missed the playoffs the last seven years of his career.
Great captain in his day . . . . . maybe not so much later on.

I'm sure Iggy will say the same thing about his new team next year...what did you expect him to say it sucks.
He is a 7 million dollar player with 10 goals though...happy with the 1st round pick and wish him the best but don't really care too much
