We did one at the pool 2 years ago and you recorded how minutes a day you did physical activity (on the honour system)
The downfall was there was one guy that would take his dog to the dog park everyday and call it 60 minutes of physical activity. I think if we were to to do it again, I would want it to be activities that get your heart rate up past a certain point or you would get more points based on the more strenuos excercises.
It just didn't seem fair that I would run a 10km in an hour and be busting my a$$ and he'd just be tossing a ball for rover.

I like the pedometer idea.

That weekly weigh in things, and losing body fat percentage is a bad way to determine the winner, the people that are most overweight will lose the most quicker... due to water weight mass that they have, most people that will start dieting properly with excersice will see an immediate for example 5-8 lb drop in weight after first week, and no i'm not ####ting you seriously.. then less and less, to a possible plateau where you will have to lower your caloric intake even further. Remember 80% of getting fit comes from your diet, only 10-20% come from actual physical activity

Be sure to make it really competitive dept vs dept. it is way more fun when a teammate drops off a couple boxes of donuts upstairs each day during the contest, and your co workers leave nasty jelly filled voicemails.

Ill never forget te day i opened my drawer to get a stapler only to find it filed with chocolate almonds. And a chocolate almond is such a terrible thing to waste...

We are currently doing a fitness challenge at work. The bosses bought everyone interested a Fitbit http://www.fitbit.com/. It is a small pedometer that is a great way of tracking results through the website and mobile apps. This way it is not about weight loss but how active you are. It is based on steps so works best with walking/running but does track everything quite well.

It has been fun and competitive way to be active. I'm currently in 2nd.
