Expect some call-ups by the Flames in the next 24 hours or so. One of the names Ward mentioned as a possibility is Reinhart.
Also, expect Byron to draw into the Heat lineup tonight.

Hey PMM, good call on Reinhart! You think Sven will get a call anytime soon?
Not sure. Haven't heard anything. To be fair though, I think Feaster just wants to give each of the young guys a cup of coffee as an evaluation tool. I think it's best to keep Sven in Abby for a bit. Give him a bit of mental stability.

I noticed sven took pretty long shifts last night. Full 2 minutes on the power play. Do you know if he was told to do that. Seems pretty selfish if not. Also seen one play where he was kind of hooked and then sat on the ice staring at the ref. Hope he is not turning into some kind of pri Madonna. I am sure he is a little out of sorts that horak was called up ahead of him.

I could see Ward keeping Sven on for the duration of the powerplay because there isn't much offensive talent on the team. I can't comment on the other play as I wasn't at the game. Sven doesn't seem like he has a prima Donna personality.
After Seigo, the Heat have signed another college UFA defenseman to an ATO:
Quote:
Abbotsford Heat General Manager Jay Feaster announced today the signing of Defenceman Connor Hardowa to an Amateur Try-Out (ATO).
Hardowa served as the captain of the University of New Hampshire Wildcats this season as a senior, leading the team to a record of (20-12-7). The Edmonton native played in all 39 Wildcats games this season, scoring twice and adding 13 assists for 15 points. Hardowa posted 43 points in 143 games over his four-year NCAA career and attended 2012 Calgary Flames Development Camp last July.
Looks like Brett Kulak made his pro debut in tonight's shootout win. How'd he do PMM or anyone else that may have been at the game?
Very very calm and steady. I think he made one mistake, which is about two less than any other Heat defender made haha.
Callahan commented after the game and said he looked like he's been playing in this league for a while. I can't disagree. He looked great for his first pro game. I think the Flames have got a real player here.

Poor Heat, Calgary keeps calling up their best players. First Horak, then Reinhart, now Sven. Goodbye playoffs!
The playoffs are pretty much already out of reach. They're in 11th place, 4 points out of the playoffs, and every team they're chasing has at least 2 games in hand (some have four).

If I had to pinpoint when the problems started, it was when Baertschi went down with that whiplash/concussion at the end of November. After that, their win% took a steep nose dive.

I know that fits the timeline, but I think it was more everything was going right to start the year. Baertschi was hot, Horak was hot, Brust & Taylor were on fire and everyone came back to earth and Sven got hurt. I think offensively Street & Sylvester slowed down quite a bit too. And of course Brodie leaving for the big club and McCarthy leaving for Switzerland, in fact I think losing McCarthy might have been the single greatest blow, he was doing everything for the Heat.

I was hoping we would get a look at Bancks at some point. PMM - what's the deal with him? Is he destined to be a career minor leaguer? Will he have to go elsewhere to get a shot at the NHL? Is he just not good enough?

I think size is his biggest issue. He plays like he's the size of Doug Murray, but has the size of Carter Bancks. It's unfortunate because he's the perfect prototypical fourth liner and has superb leadership qualities.
In other words, too small for an NHL fourth line and not skilled enough for a top 9 role IMO.

Scott Nichol was too small at one point as well. But he carved out a pretty good career for himself.

If we could get a younger Scotty Nichol out of him, I would be more than happy with that. A good energy player on the fourth line, and someone to take Begin's role going forward (we need detox from all former Flames haha)
