Good for Max. I hope he gets more than 8:30 ice time between McGrattan and Begin but that is probably what he is in line for.
Has Sven been completely ineffective since going down to Abby? I don't understand why he is not up and playing NHL hockey right now with the team long out of playoff contention.

Excited to watch and see how he does. I still think he'll need at least another year in the AHL to develop his scoring touch before he should be up full time with the Flames.
Kid has greater potential than just a 3rd line centre and i'd like to see him develop that.

Been looking forward to this day for a long time. I am really high on Reinhart. Loved his dad here too, so was particularly excited about drafting Max.
I am not sure if he will ever be the type to be a mainstay in the top 6, but who knows? This kid is as smart as they come, and I find that generally players like this develop beyond expectations.
I hope they give him some shifts on different lines, not just between McGrattan and Begin, just to see how he does.

I'm thinking it will be Horak sitting although I really liked his game last night. He has the least seniority and was a -2 and he was playing out of position. At least he was playing out of position according to Ward in Abbotsford. Anyways enough of that, glad to hear Max getting a chance. From what I've heard he's a smart, skilled player who just needs some seasoning. I hope to be cheering for him in Flames colours for a long time.

I think Feaster is trying to tank the team for the best lottery chances. Bringing up Baertschi doesn't really help that.
This is win-win for Feaster. Bring in a prospect that needs a taste of the NHL without having to worry about the standings.
I do think we'll see Baertschi close out the season with the Flames though.

There are only 4 free recalls and Management wants to see what they have in some of these other players. They might recall Sven yet, but I would expect it to be a few more games before they do that, if at all. I think the Flames only have 1 or 2 more free recalls though, and they might be used on Cundari and/or Street instead of Beartchi so management can evaluate those players at the NHL level.

Glencross is sitting out tonight, probably just a straight swap for him. Im happy Reinhart got the call, he deserves it. He is a Center though. If we needed a left winger, then where is Sven? That would seem like a more prudent call up to me.

A small preview for next season I say he gets a couple of games with limited minutes.

Thanks for the Glencross info. I'm thinking it's not a question of Sven being more deserving, they just want to have a look at Reinhart and it will be a good experience for him.

He started the year like... well, a rookie pro. He's been looking a lot better since then. He's very smart. HATES to lose board battles. Might be one of the better players on the team at playing keep-away.
I wish the Heat weren't playing tonight so I could see how he does. I'm interested to see who he plays with.
|
I watched a lot of Heat hockey during the lockout (still listen on 1080). My favourite Reinhart play was during a penalty kill when he single-handedly burned about 15 seconds off the clock by dancing around two defensemen behind the net in their end. He wouldn't give up on it.
I'm not expecting him to make a giant impact on tonight's game. But he's got a bit of character which the Flames could probably use at the moment. Glad he's making a debut.

I believe the 4 recall limit is gone in the new CBA, but it may still be a limit of 4 players who can go between teams. Anyone know the details?
Quote:
More importantly, the four recalls limitation is gone, which benefits both the parent and farm club.
In the past, if an NHL team needed a player, it would call him up and keep him even if he wasn’t playing so that if it needed him again sometime in the future it wouldn’t have to use two (or more) of its four recalls for the same player. Now a player can be called up and returned as many times as needed. That’s a huge benefit to AHL teams, which may still lose key players at critical junctures, but no longer have to watch those players sitting in an NHL press box when they could be helping out down on the farm.

Edit: It appears that the SI article is wrong. The "Four Recall Rule" no longer applies in the postseason, but that's not a concern for us this year. We're still limited to 4 recalls between now and April 20 (the last Heat game), but can make unlimited recalls thereafter.

I remember that! That was certainly one of his biggest highlights of the year. The crowd went nuts when he did that.

Sven will get his turn soon. But it is really cool that Management gave Reinhart a chance to play his first NHL game at home. Really cool move to see them do that for their prospects.

I don't think anyone here forgot about Sven and I don't see why we should be complaining either. Don't know much about Reinhart but from what's been said here you should be at least a little bit excited to see what he's got.
