Default Hockey News draft preview?

Anyone remember when this usually hits the news stands? I cannot wait to get a copy this year.

I would advise picking up the Future Considerations preview as well. Very good price and way better in terms of the information than THN. I think CP users get a discount too

Doesn't hockey news has have hacks like Adam proteau writing for them?

Someone offers a better deal in the prospects section anyways.

THN has gotten progressively worse over the years. I still buy the draft preview cause its cheap but Bob Mackenzie's free rankings are even better. If anyone has spare cash it's a good year to buy Redline, ISS or Future Considerations. I might get all 3

Where can a person get a hold of one of these? I've never seen it, but am certainly interested.

Yes. He never personally bothered me that much, but it doesn't seem like their staff is dedicated to bringing cutting edge hockey journalist. It's understood that news happens after publication, but they could make up for it with great writing.

Not by coincidence, THN's decline started after Bob McKenzie left.

Let my subscription lapse during the lockout this time. Didn't want to read about the Euro leagues or the women's game. It's still worth getting. The Draft Preview and Future Watch are still nice to have around, come draft day.

I used to be a big fan of McKeens guide too but their work has also declined in the last few years.

I usually get THN (just because it is cheap), FC and one of McKeens or Redline.

I really wish it wasn't only digital as I spend so much time in front of a computer that when it comes to stuff like this I like to have it in paper so I can read it on the throne, take it with me travelling, etc.

This link discusses many of the "paid" draft guides from HFB:
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1340305

For all of THW's draft coverage you can check in with this link periodically:
Link: http://thehockeywriters.com/category/nhl-entry-draft-2/

This is The Next Ones "home page" but has to be updated (which should be done by next weekend and constantly updated from there).

Many thanks for the requests.

I prefer the print versions too. Just feels right reading from paper. Will pick a couple up this year. Usually used to pick THN but might go with something different this year after reading the lack of positives being said about their publication.

Just wish that there was a better anme than "Next Ones." After Gretzky & Lemieux, the Canadian media annointed a series of "Next Ones." That expression reached embarrassing proportions. Bouwmeester (seriously) might've even been close to reaching that designation.

Thanks for the comment Badger Bob. A lot of background thought went into choosing "The Next Ones" as the title for my draft-related articles, believe it or not. I wavered on different possibilities. The only negative I had is exactly what you stated.

In the end, I went with it as it was my favourite of what I had. To me, it has a lot of meaning - both superficial, and more subtle.

The obvious is the continuous search and wish by many to anoint the NHL's "Next One", as you alluded to.

Beyond that though, "The Next Ones" refers to the next wave or "new breed", if you will, of players that are selected by a NHL team every year, as a 1st step of realizing the NHL dream (although certainly not the only route).

As well, (and I'll stop here, I promise - those who know me well, know I could go on and on...lol) "The Next One(s)" also can come from the unlikeliest of places. Datsyuk is often used example. A 6th rnder in 1998 - Vinny Lecavelier was the obvious 1st overall (?Next One) that year. Where would ya think Datsyuk gets drafted if that draft was redone!?
A less extreme example is our own local hero, Iginla - 11th overall in '95, behind the likes of Berard, Redden, Aki Berg, etc.

Like many expressions in our live, I just wanted to highlight "The Next Ones" has more than one meaning. Hope that gives you some insight into the thought process.
***
For a CP collective brain storm, what other expressions/names would you like as titles for NHL draft/prospect related material

For those who requested the 2013 NHL Draft Guide - The Next Ones "home page" has been updated. Plenty of reading linking up to draft-related rankings, mock drafts (one to be released by the weekend post-trade deadline, prospect profiles and much more).

Because some of CPers have asked, tons of updates at THW NHL Draft Headquarters:

- A couple weeks back, an in depth Mock Draft (Flames had 3rd overall pick back then, so not to throw salt in the wounds) - Flames nabbed Drouin and a couple of native Calgarians - great virtual haul!
- In depth profile on Ryan Pulock - find out which NFLer he's (albeit loosely) compared to.
- Kerby Rychel profile
- plus over 20 profiles up on the main page and much more unique coverage of the draft
