I have held season tickets in the lower bowl for over 15 years, and although I am willing to keep them through the rebuild period, I worry about having to pay significantly more for tickets to enjoy the same quality of seats in a new building.

well to be fair the sellers seem to want to sell the tickets but keep the rights...that is BS
I am a buy any time guy, but not so you can just take them back when the team is back on track

So what exactly does that mean? You're saying it's BS that I would sell my tickets at STH cost to CP because I still retain my STH rights? Are you suggesting that I should sell it even cheaper?
If you mean to say regarding purchasing an entire season's ticket for one year, then get on the waiting list (if you're not already on it) and you can get the rights. I don't believe a season ticket holder can transfer the rights anyways if they wanted to. I have this nagging feeling that next year a lot of seats will open up

I emailed my ticket rep yesterday, and she said that they will be sent out in mid April.

Pretty sure he is talking about individual games he can't make, not the entire season.
You can only transfer rights to family members anyway. Get on the hot hose list.

In my case, individual games or multiple games. I offered two people the opportunity to take all Sun-Wed games as I knew I couldn't make any of them. The others, for when I was out of town I either gave away or sold for a pittance.
Of course I'll retain the rights in that circumstance - I'm taking the risk on the entire season's purchase.
If you're talking about purchasing an entire season (or more) then that is a different story. Ticket rights are not transferable to third parties other than immediate family. OTOH there is nothing to prevent a contractual arrangement between a STH and someone - it's just that the original STH has to stay in place. Or the parties need to get married.

so you can't transfer rights, that sucks...not a chance I would buy an entire season without any rights moving forward. So I guess hot house is the only way, my bad
If you have sat through the last few years I don't see why you would drop out now...could be some exciting years coming up, I'm not all doom and gloom like some. Put in Sven and this years top pick with some other fresh faces, I'm sold

Currently on the fence...
If the price of tickets rise again for next season it will definitely have me seriously considering letting them finally go.

You'd think the right thing to do would be to go with a lower payroll next year and give a one year 10% discount to all renewals.

I'm keeping mine for a few reasons. Reason one is mine are very affordable, row one of the 300's. I get asked all the time why I don't get better seats ( I could afford better). However, lean years like we are experiencing now is the reason, because I have a much better chance of unloading these tickets at cost than I would with tickets in the lower bowl. I'm also used to sitting there and I can use the bathroom and be back in my seat during a TV timeout.
This is the first season that my son has gotten into hockey. He just turned six and he loves going to the games. I really enjoy taking him, he really gets into the game and cheers so hard, its a very rewarding experience for me.
I'm very excited about the new schedule. For once we will get to see every team in the league visit the Dome at least once. Sydney Crosby has played in the NHL for 8 seasons and he has only played in the Dome twice. That's crap. Now I will be getting full value for my NHL season tickets by getting the opportunity to see all the stars in the league play live each season.

Look at Mr. Big Shot calling out other fans. Do you have season tickets? If not, according to your philosophy, your not a fan at all. If, according to yourself, a person who lets their tickets go because they don't see value in it is a part time fan.

That's what I thought, demand and supply. I don't know if they will add values to ticket holders'. I don't expect them to drop the price 'cos it is not the best solution for retention. I rather they throw in $100 C of Red card of some sort of one-off 50% merchandise or whatever to reward STH.
On that, I am a holder since 2003 but not planning to release my package.

In the dressing room at hockey 3 out of 5 season ticket holders are canceling. One long term holder and two 7 to 8 year. I was kind of surprised to hear that. We'll be keeping ours but I ca understand why some don't want to stick it out. I wonder what the retention rate will be this year.

Keeping them for sure. Only one game this season went unused which is pretty good considering the Flames' performance and West-only match-ups, but I am a little scared for the next few years although the revised schedule format should help.

He's right, all of us posting on the board that don't have season tickets aren't Flames fans. It's shocking that we pay so much attention to a team we have no interest in whatsoever.

I think they're more vulnerable to cancellations this time around versus the dark years pre-2004 because they've been pretty aggressive in their pricing of the more expensive tickets.
It's a fairly hefty, easy discretionary expense for a household or a business to drop and re-apply those monies elsewhere.
What might save them, as I said earlier, is that most non-business season tickets are shared among multiple partners and some of those other partners might take on the burden even as some drop out.
The Flames probably still have a year or two to flounder before a non-renewal pullback would really pick up speed.
Season ticket holders are the bread and butter of any franchise. They are the raving fans. They're in the habit of renewing and they find it difficult to break that habit. But they're not impervious to abuse and they're very hard and expensive for a team to replace once they're gone.
2004 was a very interesting and somewhat unusual development.
Truthfully and brutally, this team has been past the first round of the playoffs only once in 24 years bu 2004 was placed very nicely in the middle of that.
By the time 2003-04 rolled around, people actually in the building was probably around the 13,500 range, even though they were selling more tickets than that. 2004 was a manic shot in the arm for the franchise and they've coasted on that for about nine years.
They probably don't have a lot of grace left before season ticket renewal habits start to be broken, just as happened in the seven year playoff drought pre-2004.
And they have a new building coming up.
Lots of internal pressures and sweating right now on the business side I would think.

How much are second level seasons that aren't in the corners?
