If we end up with Drouin, I'd look to make a trade with Gaudreau. We should be able to get a good asset. It's not that I don't like Gaudreau, I just think we'll have too many small LWs.
One reason I like Barkov is his size, so whoever we get shouldn't be a disappointment. Hey I'll be happy with Jones as well. I like my big defencemen.

Hypothetically speaking, if the Flames do land Drouin, is it at all possible to move one of Gaudreau, Drouin, or Sven to the RW.
Also, assuming Gaudreau turns out, that's a hell of a start to a very very skilled top 6. Throw in Backlund who's been looking good as well.
I'm probably being way too optimistic, but I hope the future isn't as bad as people think.

Since we have an American/NCAA looking team, I think we are definitely picking Seth Jones if we get #1 overall..

If MacKinnon is on the board when we pick early in the 1st round he's a lock to be who we select.
You've got to go with the Franchise centre. They are so rare and difficult to get it seems like a no-brainer.

Agreed. It is almost a consensus on the board that a centre is wanted. If that's the case then we would be better off picking #2 or #3. I can't see the Flames passing Jones by if they draft first. Feaster and Wisebrod think Jankowski is their centre.

If the Flames draft top 3 I think they can do no wrong. Either way they get a franchise guy. Mackinnon projects as a number 1 center but Drouin just put up 30 more points than him

Really it's top 4 imo. If we get any of those guys, I'll be happy, but a center would make me the most happy.

I'd like to pick #1 and then work out a deal with #2/3 to give us a draft pick to move up to #1 or to agree that we DON'T take jones.

I hope so, but I feel there's heartbreak remaining in this season.

The draft is going to be exciting. I wish I could walk away from CP until then :-)

Best Case Scenario if Philly gets the No 5 Pick.
To Calgary:
5th Overall
Ilya Bryzgalov
Philly 2nd 2014
To Philly:
Cammalleri (Retain 50% of salary and cap hit)
Giordano (Retain 50% of salary and cap hit)
Goalie from Blues (Forgot his name)
Pens 1st 2013
John Gaudreau
Yes, I would make that deal to secure Elias Lindholm!
MacKinnon - Lindholm sets us up for the next 10 years - (ala Sakic - Forsberg)

I appreciate that Feaster and Weisbrod are high on Jankowski as a solid off the board kind of pick but I highly doubt they would pass by MacKinnon out of some feeling of blind faith that they locked up the #1C position. Both Feaster and Weisbrod have admitted that Jankowski is a project that is likely 5 years before he breaks into the NHL, much less assuming a top line position.
They have to still be on the lookout for a franchise center and then hope that Jankowski grows into a #2 or #1b.
The only way I see them going for someone other than MacKinnon is if Jones is on the board and they feel that he is (without a doubt) the best player available.

Man, I would still love to find a way to get one of the top 4 and Lindholm and yes, the double center MacKinnon/Barkov + Lindholm would set us up for a generation.

And Drouin did with 17 less games. Crazy.
To be honest I didn't know Mackinnon and Drouin played on the same team until yesterday so that proves I haven't seen them play in the CHL and my opinion doesn't mean much. I have only seen them play in the World Juniors and of course Drouin was a lot more impressive.
As much as I would like the Flames to pick a #1 center, Drouin's offensive upside seems to be quite a bit higher. That is hard to pass up.

In what world is that the best case scenario??
Giordano alone is worth a 1st at least, let alone packaging the Pens pick, including a guy in Gaudreau who could easily be a 1st rounder now himself, AND take on Bryzgalov?

3 late first rounders don't get you a top 5 pick in a draft - especially not this years.
Giordano is overrated (In my opinion) and I'm still not completely sold on Gaudreau (I will be crucified for saying this, I know).
Elias Lindholm would be a 2nd overall pick in any other draft IMO.
