Why?

He'd be forgoing a significant amount of pay by retiring now. Why should he do that? There's a good chance he will never earn as much money as he is currently earning. Why shouldn't he finish the rest of the year?

I'd much rather see Kipper play out the rest of the season. Hopefully, the team will do him right and give him a proper send-off in his last game in Calgary. The guy has carried this team on his back for almost 10 years.

I dunno, maybe it's my misinterpretation from just reading, but from the sarcastic tone in your wording, I think you do begrudge him.

Seem pretty similar to me considering Feaster said in his press conference that there haven't been complications with Kipper's baby since birth.

Either way, I don't really care I just find it funny that "family comes first" immediately shifts to evaluating different levels of pregnancies when there's a very comparable situation with a less-beloved Flame.

Take the babies out of the equation, and you've still got a guy who is about to retire and is worth (as an "asset") next to nothing, and a guy who will actually play, and will be signing a new contract for next season, either in Columbus or elsewhere. Comeau has a few years left in him, Kipper doesn't. It's that simple.
Comeau was worth next to nothing as an asset too.

How much pay is left for this year? I think he would only be letting go $200,000.

I also hope they give him a good send off, but the flames have to be careful on how they treat this retirement. To many talking heads are demanding an investigation if he retires. It will be very hard to prove, but i still don't want to see it come to an investigation.

So do I, but for a guy like Kipper, if he has saved any of the $30 + million he has made, he would make more than $200,000 a year on basic interest charges.

If he was that hard up for the money he wouldn't have threatened to retire if he got traded.

I highly doubt this is about money,.

I have no faith in Ramo or Berra right now. I hope Kipper comes back. Give him a 1 year $3.5M extension. I think he still has game left

Why? Most of us haven't seen them play and the Flames need to start finding their next starter.

Haha, you realize he still has one year left on his contract, eh?

He only has two options; Retire at the end of the season, and lose his $1.5 million, or play next season under the current deal he is on.

Yes i am aware the rumours are he will walk away from the $1.5M unless he has an extension. If we give him an extension he might stick around instead of retiring

I guess the scouting of Cervenka and how crappy he has turned out gives me little faith in what the flames have to say about Ramo and Berra

He's making $5m in real money this year which works out to about $61k a game, even with a compressed sched it would be a lot more than $200k.

Has anybody mentioned the possibility of the Flames/Kipper and the Leafs revisiting this at the draft, or anytime in the off season?

Sure sounded like the Leafs were interested, and that Kipper considered it. Maybe it was just a really bad time for Mikka (birth and baby complications) plus with Kipper having a rough season as well.

If he does decide to keep playing, making the move in the off season instead would make the transition much smoother, plus he'd get a training camp/fresh start with his new team instead of jumping head first into the middle of a pressured packed playoff drive.

Could happen, maybe even a different team other than Toronto.

I don't want Kipper on the team next year because i don't want to see him get lit up every other game he plays. The team next year is going to be as bad if not worse than this years team.

Looking at some of the contracts on the team that is left i am not so sure how much different it is going to be on opening night. If flames won't eat salary on Tangs or Cammi they will be staying. Stempniak is not the sort of player who's value increases in the summer. Hudler just signed and Stajan probably will be on the team next year. Glencross and Backs will certainly be on the team. Sven and Horak should be on it. Maybe Cervenka is let go, for a gritty replacement but that's not enough to make them much better. They will probably add a RFA D-man but still not enough.

Rather Kipper retires a flame or goes to a team to show what he has got in the playoffs.
