People are making too big of a deal about his contract.

3 years isn't terrible if right now he's still producing team-leading stats. That hockey sense and playmaking ability doesn't subside with age like other things. Teams should recognize this and see him as a set-up man for one of their top guns, Especially Detroit. They're really lacking that kind of support for their top guys. And other places may already have their snipers, but could use a pure passer like Tanguay.

Personally, I would rather a guy like Tanguay stay than Cammy or Glencross. To me Tangs has the ability to lead the kids, i just can't see that in Glencross or Cammy.

It would be great to get some picks/prospects for him, but no problems keeping him around for the rebuild so we don't totally suck crap the next few years. Some guys have to stay around to keep us respectable.

I think the team sees it differently as Tanguay is the only one of those three players with a letter. As well, we don't see what goes on in the dressing room either so we can't really comment on every aspect of leadership that a player can provide.

I think Tanguay is more valuable as a Calgary Flame than the return we would get for him.

I don't disagree with the statement that changing the culture should include getting rid of Tangs, he has been somewhat of a floater (which surprises me since he was stoked about Hartley coaching) but perhaps it's simply more valuable for us to keep him on as a vet if he truly wants to be part of the solution.

Time will tell I guess...

I like Tanguay, we just have too many LWs so we have no room for Sven. Somebody should go and Tanguay gets the short stick because Cammallari is more versatile.

I totally agree, really want Tanguay to go, would rather stick with Cammallari, Glencross, and Sven going forward.

Also feel Tanguay plays a really soft game and has too many turnovers. He does have some nice skill would think he has some value.

He owes every dime of the $19.2m he'll make since 2010 to Iginla.

He went to Montreal after whining about Keenan, and then a francophone team of all teams wanted nothing to do with him after. That's a red flag right there. It took until a few days before camp that offseason for Tampa to sign him the next year, where he had a horrible year, playing with St. Louis and Lecavalier through his stint. Only when he comes back to play the next year with Iginla does he prove anything.

IMO, other teams see this, and his trade value is low, never mind the contract he has left. (doesn't take a genius to figure out how long the Flames hoped to have extended Iginla for past this year, when signing Tanguay to that deal).

His pure skill and ability are still there when he wants it to be, and was with Iginla either on the ice or at least in the roster. Although his attitude may not be the same that saw him get upset at the way Keenan used him, there's also a reason Hartley hasn't given him a letter. I think you're not going to see as motivated a player without his buddy and sole reason for still being in the league, around, from this point on...let alone for over 3 more years.

As a result, I think you'll see him bought out this summer...not because of the money, but because of the term and that they want to open up that roster spot and move on, and this is a one off chance to do it...then I'd hazard to guess he'll sign a cheap deal wherever Iginla ends up on July 5th.

Hope I am wrong, hope he can step up and help this team as a leader...just don't see any previous hint of him being that kind of player first and foremost.

I hope not. He's a whiner and now that we're rebuilding we should remove that cancer for good.

Alex has been completely invisible since Iginla has left.

Except for the hit on Horcoff. That was actually pretty awesome

I personally don't think his contract is horrible. It's almost impossible these days to sign a 2nd liner for 3.5M. His effort level will be renewed come next year I think. We need someone to set up Mackinnon/Barkov/Lindholm/Drouin on the PP!

And besides, Cammalleri would bring in a better return if we eat 2M of his salary next year.

I agree with this. If he isn't bought out he should be. Feaster should be fired for Tang's contract alone. He is the exact definiton of what this team does not want moving forward.

I am a first time poster long time lurker to CP. I tried to start a thread about who will be bought out with this summer's one time compliance rule but do not have enough privledges to post new threads. It might be interesting to here people's views on who will get bought out (not just on the Flames but league-wide).

why do you think he was stoked? cause Hartley is a softie and you don't have to play team defense

I don't really have that much against Tanguay, although I am very critical of his play.

We just have too many soft veterans on this team with Stajan, Tanguay, Cammalleri and Hudler. Some of them have to go simply to make room for some some desperately needed size.

Tanguay was brought in because of Iginla and Iginla wanted him here. Now that Iginla is gone Tanguay has looks to have lost all motivation and desire. It's time to part ways.

Because it was said that he had kept in contact with Bob and had reached out to him when a coaching vacancy opened up, saying something along the lines of "we need you here"...I don't have the link or anything but I believe it was from a Hartley interview when asked about his link to Tanguay since having coached him as a rookie.

Tanguay has never really shown a killer instinct/intensity to his game that I'd like to see in our top end forwards. I just wanna see some fire in him.
