Knee-jerk reaction here but a defense-first coach may not be so bad over the next couple seasons, or at least a coach who acknowledges it exists and is part of the game.
Harts is a great guy, pretty positive and whatnot, but someone's gotta be able to teach some D around here if we're gonna have new kids stepping in.
When the whole high tempo and "free flowing" approach isn't working, it tends to get ugly. (hence the 2nd worst GAA) The only bright side is it helped to boost Jbo's value.

Teams go through cycles, once the window on one group of players closes you need to be bad (and draft well) before you can be good again.
We lost a couple of games and people are jumping off the bridge. Boohoo, how do you think top teams got their top players? Gotta endure few stinkers along the road. So what?

Being bad is one thing. They've been bad for three years. Quitting when you're paying top 5 highest ticket prices in the league is what's chapping the asses of the faithful.

it won't happen, but the smartest thing the Flames could do in the offseason is to get rid of Hartley and hire Ruff

Valid. The spontaneous launch of this team to game 7 of the SCF in 2004 after years of playoff-less hockey seems to have conditioned this fan base to falsely expect winning hockey that just isn't there, and it hasn't prepared anyone for the realities of a true "rebuild". We'll have to be patient with copious amounts of tripe like tonight, from time to time.

Burke/Ruff going forward with a muzzle on Murray Edwards and Ken King is the Formula for success

I don't believe Hartley is a good coach. No plausible game plan. No adjustment for the players' abilities/talent level at all. You just don't lose 8:2 to a 10th place team in NHL! This was painful to watch. It didn't even look to me as if the team quit; it looked as if they simply couldn't do anything. This is so depressing and, worse, we have to get used to it for the next three-four years, at least.

Yeah..I may have jumped the gun a bit. But from about 3 years ago till now, we've seen some pretty impressive improvements.
Baby steps it is, but I don't see a big slow down anytime soon.

I am so disappointed that at tonights game there wasn't a Comeau tribute. I thought it would have been befitting. Couldn't they string together a highlight reel?
Anyone notice that they had the goaltender pegged and all goals were up above. Once they get him down he's frozen.
Giordano continues to disappoint based on where his play has been. Very sad for that.

Tanguay, Cammaleri – so talented players, yet, completely invisible.

After watching these last 2 games, no one will ever convince me Iggy wasn't a good captain. This team has been bad all year, but now I see what it's like when they're awful and have no heart. Fuuuuuu-ugly!

Seriously though, I feel bad for Brent Sutter. His leadership group let him down, I think he's one of the better coaches in the game. He'd be a much better coach going forward in the direction the team is headed now.

I wonder a few things:
Is Kipper going to be sitting a lot more games because of his wishes to stay in Calgary and somewhat "handcuff" Feaster from trading him. I had a feeling MacDonald was going to stay in the game regardless of how many goals he let in.
Secondly, is Hartley coaching this team to lose? He's basically rolling 4 lines the whole game. I mean, the 4th line didn't play bad but the last two games I've noticed Hartley isn't even trying to line match the Oilers. He's just rolling it.

Did the leadership group let him down? Or was the team simply bad? No amount of leadership will get a poorly constructed team into the playoffs. Especially with the depth in the West the last couple years.
