HOwever, my hate for the Canucks is extreme and I think it's kind of ######y what Gillis is doing. I think he's being greedy (yes, I know, looking out for his team), but still. Luongo gave great service to the team, just trade him for whatever you can get right now. Why make him go through all this? Just make the trade and move on. It's best for everyone involved.
Gillis better hope that Luongo doesn't get injured while playing. That would only make the situation worse.

oh crap! parish the thought that feaster does that as well, at the expense of another players feelings. cp would be all over that

Haven't read the whole thread but Gillis was definitely exaggerating the interest in Luongo over the last few months. Who else besides Toronto ever even kicked the tires? He was trying to drum up interest and the bottom line is, Luongo would have moved if there was half as much as interest as he was constantly telling the media there was.

Not sure how it will get any easier to move over the summer either with so many teams in cap trouble and the cap itself going down.

I think the lack of trade at the deadline shows what the GMs of the league thought Luongo's trade value was - virtually nothing.
Vancouver will be forced to get rid of one of their goalies to get under the cap for next season, and it's looking like they will have to trade Schneider, or buy out Luongo. I suppose its a possibility that another team might pick up Luongo if he was waived.

How can they have a "potential deal in place" if they haven't even agreed to the return coming back? If you're going to trade a contract with 9 years remaining you shouldn't be surprised by the fact that you're gonna get salary dump (that you don't want) back. It's pretty much inevitable. Take the dump, buy out the player that doesn't fit. No other way around it.

Sucks to be Luongo. His chances of returning to the Panthers is over with Markstrom's play and Yzerman thinks Luongo is too short.

I believe that was put out there by Damien Cox (hardly a bastion of journalistic integrity) and was never truly confirmed.

hah!! I knew Luongo will not be traded. Like who once to take over his lousy contract? Maybe a few years ago when Luongo was still young and playing well that teams will go after him. I also think if there was an interest on him, the other team are definitely trying to throw a bad contract back to Canucks as well.

Being against he cap like they are, I would be surprised if he brings any sort of asset back. Gillis have painted himself into a corner and now all the GM's have him over the barrel. With Luongo turning 34 tomorrow and 9 years left on the contract it is getting to the territory where Vancouver may have to take salary and give something for someone to take Luongo.

Gillis could have done a favour to Luongo and traded him for a low pick. You'd think someone would have taken him on for like a 4th round pick or less.
Lots of GM's do that to veterans and players who aren't getting a good opportunity where they are at.
The classy GM's will sometimes do what's best for the player, and what's best for the organization is secondary.
This is all on Gillis. The right thing for the player would have been to trade him for whatever he can get.
Luongo should be pissed, but he's too good a person, and now he gets stepped all over by Gillis and the Canucks.

14 contracts at $62mil? Yeah, I would say they are in trouble. Luongo and a D man probably need to be moved to make room for some forwards.
Honestly though, who is looking for a veteran goalie?
The guy wants out so bad...

Damien Cox made that up. Damien Cox also said the Leafs never offered Kadri within one week of making that claim up too.
